The 440 is still here at the moment. It is very likely to be scrapped if nobody steps in and saves it. I think £60 would buy it.

What's actually up with it though? I had no issues in over 4k. Bit disappointed its broke. Sorry.

I'm disappointed it stopped working, It was running fine and I had a great day touring the hills and lochs of Perthshire in it. The next day I took it out it cut out and wouldn't restart. The started motor jammed, started smoking and now doesn't work. It's a fueling issue, fuel pump maybe. I have a spare pump and I could probably get a starter motor from Derskine from a 440 that he broke for spares but I don't have the time to spend trying to fix it.

I feel pretty shitty at the thought of it being scrapped but I'm over my limit of cars I can store.

I feel bad its bust on you. I honestly didn't know there was anything wrong. Then again electric components fail at no notice

I like 306 estate, the "little estate" is a concept I agree with.

What's been happening lately? Panhard65 kindly sent me some rockers to try on the 18, upon opening the package they looked different to the ones on the car, I think they were slightly more beefed up as they had come from a Turbo diesel. I fitted it anyway and got a new belt from Derskine.

I had some slight issues with timing it correctly, I put the belt on with guesswork, I found the cam and pump marks easily enough but couldn't figure out which marks on the crank pulley were the correct ones to line up the new belt with. I found out there's a way to determine tdc on the crank by removing a bolt on the casing and poking something in it until it stops turning. I tried this method along with lining up the other timing mark but when trying to turn over by hand it stopped turning. For some reason I figured it was 180 degrees out but after unbolting the rockers and turning the cam it still wouldn't turn over by hand.

I decided to remove the bottom pulley and noticed the timing marks were there so I lined all of the lines marked on the belt up and tried turning it over by hand.

It turned freely but after one revolution of the belt none of the marks lined up so I turned it over a few more times and the marks were at a different point each time. I thought "fuck it" and connected a battery to see what would happen when trying to start it.

The result was good, it was my first timing belt change so I was a bit apprehensive about doing it but I got there in the end...

It looks fucking horrendous. I'm planning on making the tide mark straight but I used underseal to try and cover the roughness of the welds, I'll hammerite the rest.

I got the rear arches on the 305 looking slightly less shit

Does that 18 need a new gearbox? I vaguely remember offering one from an espace TD to someone on here then forgetting all about it.

There's a slight crunch going down into second and the clutch is past it's best but other than that it's not too bad. A spare gearbox would be handy but it's not really essential at the moment.

Today I spent a bit more time on the 18, I got a new v-belt from my local motor factors, it didn't fit so I took it back and got a longer one which was a better fit. To fit the belt the alternator needed unbolted but when unbolted there's not a whole lot of movement available so getting a belt to fit was always going to be a fluke.

After fitting the belt, I fitted the radiator and bled the cooling system. The rear drums were seized so I removed the rear wheel to hit the drum with a hammer and it freed off, I took the wheel inside to put air in the tyre but the valve was letting air back out. I broke the bead only to find an inner tube inside so grabbed some Renault Espace wheels and fitted some tyres I had lying around...

The sill on the drivers side rear was starting to look a bit frilly so I cut it out and welded a patch in and undersealed it.

It was actually some of the best looking welding I've managed on car bodywork but I didn't take any photos unfortunately.

I've still to collect it, if someone wants to buy my 309 I will go get it.

I'm glad to see Rennie getting some love again, I'll miss it, but I'm still happy with the swap.

Mind you've to fit the driveshafts on the 309 as part of the deal.

The radiator fan on the 18 didn't work so I went to the scrapyard to see if I could find another one, there were very few cars that had the fan on the correct side. I found one that looked like it might fit in a Saxo, ripped it out and paid £12 for it. I removed the old fan and wired in the Saxo one. Derskine had previously wired in a switch so all of the wiring was there which made the job fairly quick.

The fan wasn't a perfect fit, I had to break some of the plastic from the original mounts but when I fitted the grille it looked almost oem.
