We have now reached Wales...
The 309 had a bit of a stalling issue when we stopped at the services but a quick adjustment of the fuel mixture saw it running fine again.

Wait, your doing this in a 309?
Epic.
Yeah, we are going in the 309 but will be returning in a different French 4 door saloon of a similar vintage.

All I'm seeing there is a nice flat floor plate with 1 angled upstand lovingly welded into place.

Neither could I but luckily he was interested in a part exchange with the 309.

6 hours to home, 12v socket does not work, phone battery is low and one of the headlight glasses has fallen off.
Oh and the fuel gauge doesn't work! 21c3ed1b70255bc1687e6c51a9d2686d.jpg

Got a low oil warning near glasgow so stopped at the services for fuel and oil, it took 4 litres of oil so must have been really empty.

Well done, and bloody hell.

It's fairly low mileage as far as I remember? Interior looks immaculate!

I don't think so, there's some major discrepancies on the mot history, It's possibly well above 200k now.

The wooden door handle will be going in the bin along with the steering wheel and seats. the seats were worn so someone has glued horrible fabric to them.

Fitted a different vacuum pump in hope for better brakes, I think they are slightly better but not quite right, I think they are all brand new so might be bedding in or something.

Replaced the mirror with an original Peugeot one, replaced the steering wheel and found an 8 ball gear knob which seemed to fit better than the wooden one.

I dug out my tweed seats.

The originals were pretty well knackered.

Still need to sort out the blower motor, radio, 12v socket, intermittent wiper and screen wash motor.

Spent pretty much all day working on this, the vacuum pump I fitted yesterday was knackered, I had started to remove the master cylinder and brake servo when it dawned on me that I had another 305 diesel to compare with so fired up the god estate and checked what was going on.

I found that the vacuum hose at the servo on the green wasn't sucking but on the gold car it was.

I felt a bit bad for robbing bits from a car that I'd been hoping to get roadworthy at some point but I really needed to improve the green car to make it usable.

With the vacuum pump swapped onto the green one it made a huge difference and the car now has fully functioning brakes.

I compared engine bays to the petrol estate which is relatively close to being on the road.

48398386297_4bb01a6359_c.jpgRJC_1334 by srblythe, on Flickr

Then removed another essential item for the green 305.

48398384657_f493c8f871_c.jpgRJC_1337 by srblythe, on Flickr

We then set about trying to get the wipers working, they don't park or work on intermittent, tried testing different wiper motors and stalks but neither helped, I couldn't seem to find the wiper relay, I could find it on the estate but not on the saloon, also the stalk had a single wire connected to it which was just dangling down not connected to anything but on the estate it went into the loom, I think it's supposed to go to the relay.

We changed the washer motor so now we have screenwash and slow and fast settings on the wipers. Also fitted a stereo and wired up the 12v socket.

I figured out what was up with the mileage on the mot history, the first digit on the odometer increases in a similar fashion to the last digit on the trip counter but all of the other numbers seem to go up as normal, someone had changed the clocks to ones with a similar mileage but the fuel gauge didn't work so I swapped the old clocks back into the car.

With the arrival of this yesterday I'm now up to 14 cars so thinking I should maybe let some go.
I'm thinking Toyota corolla lift back and w123 240d and possibly the pez 305 estate, audi 80, subaru mv.
I'm also toying with selling the chevette, I'd really like a viva instead. ed680ed1ef5b384cec7ba9a5440fd8c7.jpg

After a day of driving the 306, I really wasn't feeling it so put it back up for sale and sold it to someone in Edinburgh who wanted to run it on veg.

The 240D I sold to some Romanian dude from Glasgow.

And today I sold the Subaru to a Lady from Doncaster.

I'm feeling pretty good about reducing the fleet at the moment so will be looking to move on the 305 estate and audi 80 next...
