sierraman Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Was thinking of getting one of these seen one in machine mart £70. Worth getting? Goes up to 450nm
dollywobbler Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Yes. I love mine. Doesn't get vast amounts of use but I'm always glad of it when I need it.
garbaldy Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 mine is good but big and heavy when lying under the car with it, it has also been stumped with the wheel nuts on the blingo so I tried the 18 volt battery Milwaukee my friend has and it wizzed them all of with ease, maybe they don't have the torque they are advertised with.
dollywobbler Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Mustard mitt, mine did struggle with wheel nuts the other day, but they were stupid tight. Impact gun seemed a better bet than snapping my breaker bar though.
bub2006 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Mine was 39 quid from machine mart. Plugs into fag lighter. Been very well behaved and helped a lot. Wouldn't be without one now
overrun Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Not that relevant, but I have an 18v Snap-On cordless. I forget the model, but it is always a life saver. The breakaway torque is immense.Although it does need a new battery, now. Still, was only about £120, used on eBay, a couple of years back. I did once have a 12v fag lighter job from Argos and it was shite.Mind, this was probably 10 years back!
alf892 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Any impact gun that struggles with car wheel nuts is not going to be much use when you really need it. Ok as a nut runner maybe.
twosmoke300 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Snap on 18v is a real tool . Bloody expensive I know but once you have one you wont look back . No lifetime warranty on power tools but after 10 years mine wasnt quite as pokey as it once was so I sent it off for a refurb . I was quoted 80 quid which I was happy with . They just replaced it with a brand new one ! After 10 years daily use . Chuffed as fcuk.Mind you its a £450 +vat gun now . junkyarddog and overrun 2
Danblez Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I have the Clarke 450nm one and have been very impressed for the money. It has even undone crank pulley bolts! Banger Kenny 1
twosmoke300 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Challenge time , if an impact wrench undoes a crank pulley on a honda with the n/s cambelt its a bloody good un alf892, Sigmund Fraud and dollywobbler 3
panhard65 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Challenge time , if an impact wrench undoes a crank pulley on a honda with the n/s cambelt its a bloody good unI had forgotten about them (blanked from memory more like) I use an old CP air impact gun and there isn't much that will beat it. The new ones aren't a patch on older tools from when stuff was built to last. My biggest grumble is the muppets that use them to do locking wheel bolts. The latest version of Peugeot bolts will shear if you use any form of impact gun on them. I have one customer who has had 2 sets of bolts buggered up now by tyre fitters, some people never learn.
sierraman Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 I was looking to use it on stuff like suspension arms, drop links etc if it was suitable
Bren Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I undid my rover v8 crank pulley bolt with a breaker bar and a piece of tube. I iz Charles Atlas.
overrun Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I undid my rover v8 crank pulley bolt with a breaker bar and a piece of tube.I iz Charles Atlas.I did my MR2's on the starter, with the battery from my Mondeo and a breaker bar. You win.

Mine would benefit from the same.
dollywobbler Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I got mine after breaking too many tools tying to undo a BX hub nut. Undid it like it was finger tight. Result!
