Miserable decision to be made..........

The beetle drove spiffingly, I don't like the leccy window switches as they are in a silly place and there is a reflection on the speedo needle from street lamps that made me think a warning light was flashing all the way home but I was suitably impressed

Glad to hear, it does drive lovely. Agreed, those switches are in a stupid place. However, next to the clock, you do get an outside temp gauge :)

Nice but not quite me.

Well, bids are in on a tidy 45 and an MG. 5 days and who knows. No, not an MGF, sorry Taff.

If you fancy that Blackburn XM, I'm driving past there next Tuesday with an empty trailer, going as far south as Oxfordshire, so could help get it a bit closer to you Ken.

The MILF I'm seeing at the moment has a Heather-spec beetle rag top, goes ok actually.

The car or the MILF??

How about one that's not a bit different.

My sister has a 2003 Suzuki Swift. It is a bit ordinary but has some redeming features.

It is small and very ecumenical even in auto form

4 speed auto for the hills, I can pass other cars on fairly steep hills (Kaimai ranges actually and quite a hard climb)

The seats are surprisingly high and it is easy to access

quite comfortable too.

nippy and capable of motorway speeds

short wheelbase means a bit pitchy on rough roads, but not bad .

4 doors and room inside for the family

etc etc

Not exactly stylish and people will look in pity not lust

Worth a look at and maybe the Chevrolet version for extra laughs

This is what we got over here as the Ignis.  When MrsR decided she wanted a brand new car for the first time in her life, that's what we bought, although it was the entry-level 1.3 manual.  The auto will be 1.5.  We loved it.  If we hadn't buggered off to Cyprus we would probably still be driving it now, and I'm typing this on the 9th anniversary of its registration!  Have a gratuitous pic.

So. The choices thus far are a low mileage R45 with all of the bells and whistles and a decent service history or an MG ZT also with a decent history. What to do.

Forget them and buy a Scooby Forester

Built properly not 'That'll do Dereks' from Longbridge

Had a word with Mr. Brace at Classic Swede.

He reckons your Amazon could be converted to a floor change auto for around £500.

Posted

Really? That is much cheaper than I would have expected and worth looking into if the Toledo goes.

Thanks for that :)

get the ZT & have the Amazon converted to Mills spec

Not sure I'll be able to make it this year mate, that there work and all. Hopefully the next one though.

MG ZT - Is that the sporty 75?

Just thinking the seats and the suspension set up could be far less forgiving than the connie?

Posted

Errrrrm, yes it is mate. That is actually rather a valid point. Arsebiscuits I'd forgotten about that. Waftiness is helpful. Oh well, here comes bid cancellation time.

Well, as we now know another Rover 75 is on the cards as the ZT scooted above my financial limit.

The 75 collection is due to happen on Saturday and of course this week is passing soooooo slowly. Typical.

The Beetle has gone to a new home but the TR7 powered Toledo is still languishing in Edmonton.

I think the chap who expressed an interest initially might be struggling to find space for it, so if anyone has a lusting for such a beastie can they please let me know.

Pictures of said car are on here somewhere. They are on page 2 about 3/4 of the way down :)

The car is MOT'd until 2nd May 2015 and would take a couple of hours fettling to be drivable - just refitting lights, grille and front bumper really. Starts, runs and stops a treat. Biggest issue is paint. £850 will do nicely and will enable me to do what is sensible to the Amazon (possibly). Oh and the V5C is with Swansea awaiting cc update and hopefully change to historic status.

:)

Cheers

The Toledo is still up for grabs but now has the correct engine details on the V5C.

John, did you get my latest PM? I know you have been having problems with notifications.

Cheers

Ken
