Rover 600 brake pads.

I know there's a thread for daft questions, but..

Front pads on the Rover of Zoom need doing according to daughter, so to embrace the spirit of shite I'm not going to splash out the £15 I usually pay to Ali at the tyre place to fit front pads on my 150 mph Teutonic fast lane intimidator.

No, I'm going old Skool , scissor Jack and big screwdriver style on the front drive in the rain.

The question ; is there really only one type of pad for all 600s? This seems unlikely, but all of the high quality* ( compressed grass, dogshit and asbestos) pad suppliers only list one , does this mean even Euros won't be able to supply the wrong ones?

If your licks like mine there will be an obscure type fitted to your car. Hopefully the discs will be ok, from memory on the 600 they require a press, hence becoming a garage job. More reason then to replace worn pads.

Yes,apparently new discs mean new bearings, which as you say need a press. I've just looked on MG Rovers are us.com or whatever and there's a thread about some nimrod who spent 3 days putting fancy black discs and ebc pads worth as much as all the surviving 600s on the planet combined, on his turbot.

Uprating the discs and pads on most modern cars is pointless with regular use. He's probably spent a weeks wages on the brakes then is running around on a medley of piss poor King Kong tyres.

On some 600's the disc is mounted behind the hub so you need to slide hammer the hub off and remove the disc. Ive done loads on old hondas and the bearings are fine afterwards

ECP do a budget pad called Eicher, I was dubious at first, but having fitted a set on fatha sierras Mondeo, they seem perfectly adequate for the job, just won't last as long and probably cause a bit more dust etc.

Eicher are made in the same factory as Pagid pads, so should be very good, as Pagid pads are o.e spec, so contrary to numerous interweb fuckwits, kittens won't die and your car won't instantaneously turn into a fireball if you fit these pads. Both made at TMD friction in the UK.
