I had a car like that once. No, not a v8 diesel, but a car with a massive, crumpled-up ball of wiring in a corner of the engine bay. Didnt end well.

 

Having said that, I would imagine that motor doesnt need much in the way of electrickery to run.

Yep - I'm guessing that mass of noodles is just the old wiring left in place should you decide to switch back to the old engine. The re-wiring task would probably be the primary reason not to switch back
