Quick one.

My mate is after a motor in Belgium, and he asked me to ask you fine* people** if he will have any additional carry on, from having a car trailer behind him.

I said no. As I am certain I have read similar questions and answers on here, in the past.

Giz the jist, to put his mind at ease.

My dad tows a shonky always overloaded Brian James farm trailer back and forth to France every month or so and the Flics have never bothered him. The fact it's on the back of either a 300 Tdi Disco or an 86" Series 1 means he's never likely to break any speed limits though.

I think as we seem to have the strictest laws and regulations anywhere in Europe, Johnny Foreigner Old Bill assume anything RHD must be ok.

If its legal in the UK, its legal anywhere else in EU as a temporary visitor.....cars, trailers, bikes, heavily modified stuff....its all good.

I took mine all over france with no issues. You do need a GB sticker on the trailer and a second warning triangle for the trailer but I think that is all you need, Check breakdown insurance though as I know the RAC would only come out to fit a spare wheel on a trailer and not recover it. I never had any problems but did check with my breakdown company to make sure before I went. Go for it and if your going to make a habit of collecting in France let me know as my contact who used to bring stuff back for me has retired now.

Did a trip across earlier this year with a single axle Ifor. No dramas but we did go via the tunnel which makes life easier.

They seem to let you drive at the upper limit with a trailer on which is handy, ok they don't but we didn't get stopped.

GB sticker on the trailer and foot down. Check for undesirables on the way back!

As long as you're insured to tow a trailer you'll be fine. Check if you need spare wheel and bulbs for trailer. I'd take them anyway.

Make sure it's clearly English, and as long as you don't do anything daft, you'll be left alone.

Les Flics dislike pain, which is where they'll be if forced to stop you.

Keep it clean(ish) they'll turn a blind eye.

Cheers, folks.

As expected!

I shall pass on the info, with thanks.
