e-Bay 'private' listings; con or bona fide?

Recommended Posts

e-Bay 'private listing' for bids received.

Am I right in thinking that this is a cover for the vendors family and friends to nudge up the price anonymously to the disadvantage of genuine bidders?

What might be a bona fide reason for doing this?

To what extent am I naive, trusting and gullible? (very!).

Answers on a postcard, please . . .

That's exactly what they're for. The moment you see 'private listing' should be the moment you click off and find something else.

None of the above is true.

They're simply listings by EBay members that have risen to the rank of "Private" in the army of Britain.

Accounts are mainly used for ordering some sweet Legos to BAFPO drops, so they can report them as none delivered and claim refunds. And keep Legos.

Occasionally used for selling. With similar levels of morality.

Wouldnt touch them with Mr-Bo11ox's bargepole, I also think they are as you say only for people who want to con you....although if someone can give me a reason why a seller should be able to hide the identity of everyone who is bidding i am all ears

It does rather spend on whether you're talking about auctions for used cars, or for unwashed ladies undergarments.

I think I'd rather admit to the used birds knickers than most of my cars.

Ha ha; my Mrs had a friend in South London who used to sell her 'soiled' unterpanten via some 'specialist' publication, and made very tidy money from it a few years ago: nice little earner, exploiting all the lonely perves out there.

Or Persil to show how good their latest washing powder is.

It's become completely pointless for any legitimate reason since eBay removed the ability of bidders to see the full identities of other bidders.  The only reason I can now see for it is, as has been said, to hide the fact that the 0-feedback bidder who outbids everyone else within 30 seconds has only ever bid on items from the one seller.

^^ Not a fan really..... Ok now and then, but tends to annoy me now for some reason.

Really? Am a 'man of the world' etc, and been/seen/dunnit really. But buying soiled underwear on't internet seems a bit far. I mean, why? (Rhetorical question). Tidy money? Shudder.

Perhaps the same reason you can buy it out of a Japanese vending machine?

I don't see the problem myself, it takes all sorts. I hope the guy I've just posted some skiddy Primark boxers to agrees.
