Have you got any photos your three wheelers?

Posted

I only have one and that's on faceache I think. Memory card on phone was formatted and lost all pics. I'll see if I can find anymore

Very nice indeed you have had a few, I like the wheels on the blue MK2 very smart, The Regal supervan must have cost a few quid.

Rialto collection is tomorrow. Getting a free ride to Portsmouth then train to Exeter (bloody trains.... 18 quid except when they coincide with the ferry, then it's 50quid ) Arrive in Exeter at 17.33, then straight back to Portsmouth for the 22.45 ferry. Don't think I'll have time for a proper curry and real beer on this trip :(

So if you see a beige rialto on the A30,35,31,M27 that'll be me.

Pez station paps to follow....

Going well so far. Rialto made it to Portsmouth no problem. Photos to follow tomorrow morning. Ships bar is open Guinness is calling....

I found mine to be very stable considering the 25% wheel deficiency too.

There's nowt wrong with three wheels (what does a camera go on for stability?), just that two of them must be at the front. Otherwise you're safer on a bike, surely?

More info and pics later when I can get AS to work on my PC.

"post" doesn't work and "more post options " goes to PayPal????,

Long day yesterday. Blagged a lift with a mate to Portsmouthpost-18019-0-21577000-1423580477_thumb.jpg

Boat shite (not the one we arrived on)

post-18019-0-43549800-1423580589_thumb.jpg

Then a not unpleasnt trip on two of these. I was expecting a gold plated one though.

Collected from the station by the seller in the Rialto.

Back at his place there were two more Rialtos, a Robin, a Regal and a Bond. I took this as a good sign.

Done the deal and as it was 6.45 and boat check in was 9.45 I left pronto.

I've never driven a Reliant before so I was a bit* nervous.

Obligatory pez station shot:post-18019-0-44845000-1423581261_thumb.jpg

Full tank of pez and a pastie installed pressed on to Portsmouth.

Sorry but this is really boring, it never missed a beat and there were no comedy roll overs.

I made it check in 20 mins early too.

This gave me plenty of time to partake of Guiness and read through its extensive service history.

This morning I was on the right side of the channel for the trip home, no problems appart from curious on lookers at a DIY store carpark wanting to know what it was etc, and cars slowing to have a good look as they passed on the motorway.

First impressions ?  It's no long distance cruiser but off the Mways and big A roads it's a right laugh. It feels quciker than it has any right to be and I love the bolt acction gear shift. Clutch feals to bite a bit early but I thing tis should adjust. I've only done about 300k so far, but the handeling and roadholding hasn't scared me. Yet.

Needs a left hand door mirror, anyone got one ?

Top spec GLS version in champagne beige. Door mirrors are scarce (the one you have is the wrong one anyway)

http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/caterham-style-mirrors

This type was used on late mk1 robins and uses the same mounting holes, and is much better than the big square Rialto type.

Sound proofing around the engine and floor makes them much quieter.I used to be up and down the motorways all the time in mine, extra padding in the seat, soundproofing and big speakers help a lot.

Two large access panels in the foot well to get to the engine,no.7 and 8 tappet still an arse though.

Nice like it a lot. Same age as mine as well. The chap i get spares from has original mirrors listed on his site for £25 each, but the ones listed above are cheaper.

Looking at it again its on a Y plate but it looks like a rialto 2, i thought they were later that Y?

Its not a Rialto 2 its a first gen Rialto gls with the GLS stripe. 2 didn't come out til 1984.

Its the indicator lamp and bumpers that made me think its a 2, Mine has different bumper strips and no wing mounted indicator, was that a difference on tehe saloons?

The side repeaters on this one are retro fitted, they didn't become standard til 1986,basically when reliant had to fit them by law, also they were mounted below the waistline moulding nearer the door.the plastic bumpers are also a later addition.

Brilliant stuff. I am quite envious.

Er, two at the front isn't necessarily anymore stable, as this photo I took a couple of years ago demonstrates!

It went further over than that. To the point that the passenger put his hand down to try and catch it! He would have had more luck hanging over the back of the driver like they did in the old days (sidecar racing style).

Fortunately, it wasn't. I did speak to a chap a while back who rolled one on a photoshoot though. He was racing an aeroplane at the time I think. He was quite a character. I want a three-wheeler.

Startrooper - be careful on re-entry, make sure you get the angle right otherwise she'll go up in smoke...

Talking of smoke, please, please replace all the fuel hoses inc the critically important carb overflow pipe NOW with top notch fuel hose,or it WILL catch fire and you have about 20 seconds to get out. This is often neglected by tight fisted reliant owners and poor engine access, the pipe from pump to carb splits at the carb and sprays fuel over the manifold which is about an inch from the body.the overflow does as it says and takes excess fuel (expansion and sticky needle) away from the engine. I changed the pump to carb pipe once a year, its cheaper than a new car! Reliant reputation for catching fire is largely because of that pipe.

i've not had much time to play this week, had to catch up on work after collection duties.

I had  a few daylight hours today and had a look at the fuel pipes, they all look almost new, so no flameing Rialto any time soon.

Adjusted the clutch  so bite point is not 1" off the floor anymore, still seems a bit "sharp" to me, probably get used to it, more importantly hopefully Mrs.Frogchod can get used to it.

Those mirrors in the post above have been ordered. Deffo a PITA without a left hand mirror here in france.

FFVE registration comences tomorrow.....

Those mirrors are good and far better than the Rialto ones which aside from being ugly rattle around and are hard to adjust. Clutches are generally in or out.check the return spring is fitted underneath,if not, aside from jerky pedal action, its bye bye thrust bearing!

Do carry a fire extinguisher in there though,if only for the fact that if you have one you will hopefully never need it. They ain't pretty when they go up

Rialto is now registered in France, easily done too. Which is unusual for France....

60 euro for FFVE and the certificate of conformity, 98 euro rego fee and 30 euro for the plates. No control technique required

on three wheelers either.

It's been in regular use, nothings dropped off, never failed to proceed and I haven't rolled it yet.

All the above makes me happy :)post-18019-0-76110600-1430150234_thumb.jpg
