nisfan Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 yep was an afterthought, they were fitted at the dealers after they were shipped over, the engine im sure is the bluebird one, feels more sprightly in this though.
Jim Bergerac Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Think that might be the Accord that used to be semi-permanently parked on Cockburn Street in Edinburgh?
DodgyBastard Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Think that might be the Accord that used to be semi-permanently parked on Cockburn Street in Edinburgh? The very one! I'm sure you'll be seeing this in its place... DSC_4563 by srblythe, on Flickr DSC_4565 by srblythe, on Flickr Jim Bergerac 1
Split_Pin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I remember that Accord, aways had bicycles in its roof. It was almost guaranteed that you'd see it.
Lacquer Peel Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Ooohh, 1.8! 5-speed box! Unfortunately can't be straight-swapped for the 1.6, as it has a transaxle. What's the crack with the 1.6 transaxle? Isn't every FWD gearbox a transaxle?
MrDuke Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I only know because I considered swapping my 4-speed box for a 5-speed from a 1.8, only to be reliably informed that it was impossible as the 1.8 had a transaxle and the 1.6 didn't. Well, I say 'reliably informed'......
nisfan Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Kinkersaab, do you know that pic you found is my car?! And i used to own that 18 gtd that you saved. Heres some pics of rust, Boot, only surface rust, paint is like paper, absolute shite, Ground down, primered and painted with wheel paint, its the autoshite way! Any repairs outside i will use the correct paint. Seen some rust on the bottom of the door so decided to take it off and cut it back.........erm Balls, this job is getting bigger and bigger. In other news it looks like the honda will have to be roller painted. The paint is absolutely shagged, lacquer peel all over it, scratches, and lots of rust scabs and four bits of rust where his roof rack used to sit. It is not ECONOMICALLY VIABLE to pay for a respray on a £400 shitter.
nisfan Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 Ive decided my welding needs to get better before i start welding the arch/sill after welding the door which looked worse than a pigeon with the squits, I strangely forgot to take a photo of that. So i decided to take the wing off to sort out the dent in it and was pleasantly surprised, Zeibart actually doing its job, Inner wing of a 32 year old datsun OMGRAREBARNFIND etc Inside of the wing, The dent that needs sorted, All the bolts came undone easily apart from one that sheared but not bad for japscrap. mouseflakes and Craig the Princess 2

The Reverend Bluejeans Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Am I right in saying the Stanza was the last Datsun before they became Nissens* again?

Or am I the only one who prefers actual patina to shiny (or no doubt in your case matt army green or shit brown) paint, whether the original paint weathered or not? derskine Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Or... you know... you could just leave it alone? Or am I the only one who prefers actual patina to shiny (or no doubt in your case matt army green or shit brown) paint, whether the original paint weathered or not? It's more a case of protecting it from rust, for me anyway when I've roller painted cars, it's pretty durable.I like both, sometimes it's nice to have a car that's one colour and because we've all got loads of cars it doesn't make sense to spend a lot on a paint job.
Craig the Princess Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 There does come a point when the paint is so ducked it needs to go however, like the lacquer free rover bonnet I have, our where that repairs needs a load of painted anyway. catsinthewelder 1
nisfan Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Stanzas were sold as datsuns then nissans. On the honda front if i left it alone the car would become a write off very soon due to the rust in the roof. If i catch it now it wont get any further. Ive now decided to not roller it but my thinking was a rattle can finish is a lot less durable than a roller finish and silver is a cunt to match. Not that it makes much difference now but it would have been satin black and done properly with correct prep, thinners etc
nisfan Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Took a few shitey pics on my bt cellnet mobile fone to show how bad it is. The previous owner stuck ductape over the scabs, BAD idea,
Sigmund Fraud Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 For full Autoshite scene* points, repair the rust properly but make sure that the topcoat is a primer-grey coloured polygon !
nisfan Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Or for full giffer points throw some wob over it, dont sand it then paint on some emulsion with a paste brush and wait for the rust to come back a month later. Sigmund Fraud and vulgalour 2
Rusty Pelican Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Im sure my pops old Stanza had Datsun by Nissan on a badge somewhere or other , crossover model maybe or by memory has borked itself
nisfan Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Spot on my stanza and bluebird have that. rainagain 1
nisfan Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Started to grind a bit of rust where the latch on the boot is... as it began to grow i decided it would be better cut out. Took out about 50x40mm. This is my first 'proper' repair, cut out, weld in new metal and add filler. The whole back panel is going black, thats why its covered in primer, ground out all signs of rust and primered them.Removed the rear bumper to help with the painting and what do you know more rust, although its not bad just surface like the boot was. Also bagged these, no idea what to fit them to... 4x100 and i will need metric sleeved nuts to fit them. Do these exist?
Partridge Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Just discovered this thread...Awesome stuff!
MrDuke Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Last Nissan to be badged as a Datsun (in the UK anyway) was the K10 Micra, although it happened very early on and I doubt any Datsun-badged ones are left now.
nisfan Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 With the honda gone it was time to get on with the stanza as im being pressured into getting it moved. I knew there was some work needing done in the drivers side rear wheel well but didnt expect this, arse biscuits! The car has been zeibarted from new and this is what happens to a datsun when it isnt covered, no wonder theres none left.Once the work has been done i will be carrying on with this, Need to replace a rear arm and shock after some bint drove into the side of me. Took months to get the suspension arm but finally got one. I really hope thats all it needs or i could be waiting months for other bits.
