I bought something sensible instead

If you shine a torch into the clock display you should be able to see if it works or not. If you can see a display with the torch it will be the bulb that's away.

Already tried that - experience with Rovers taught me that, don't think I've had one with a working clock light! There's nothing showing in the display.

Prolly loose connection then - get removing the radio and heater controls to find out  Why they didn't design it to "pop out" of the dash I'll never know...I need to do this job myself as (a) I've got a failed bulb on my temp gauge and (B) I have very little radio reception, so I think the aerial lead has fallen out. I must get my daily fill of Steve Wright, so driving the estate any distance currently just ain't an option...

You have to remove the radio and the heater controls? Beejeezus, fook that!

I'll be doing it over the Xmas break so can PM you some hints if you want. The Haynes manual for these things tends to omit a lot of info, as I found out when I swapped driver's seats.Oh, I'd probably get a new thermostat and gasket (about £20 from Peugeot) and change/flush the coolant at the same time, always a good insurance policy against HGF with the XUD9TE lump. Should sit at between 80-85C when warmed up, and not move when you boot it

It's doesn't go over 80 when cruising. It hit about 90 when I was sitting with engine idling over an extended period, but the fan kicked in and brought the temp down rapidlyI really like it. Much nicer to drive than the stiffly-sprung Primera (someone hit the £400 BIN, yay!) and quick enough.

Easy to do though. Nothing more than a few torx screws.
