Had the renewal quote today for my 1972 Land Rover 109 diesel from Adrian Flux. Last year £78 fully comp, with an agreed value of £3000, limited to 1500 miles a year.

This year £98-46p for the same cover. I haven't made any claims or had any motoring convictions. Has any one else on here had a price hike for their classic?.

I had the same thing a couple of years ago from Flux on my S1 and Range Rover. That, and the fact I wasn't overly impressed with how AF handled a mate's claim, sent me searching elsewhere. With RH Heritage now, good package with breakdown cover including europe... think the Land rover renewal was about £75.

I would get quoted as a new customer and see if the price drops back to how it was. I'm probably going to move the rest of my cars over from PBIS to footman james. I'm paying £88 on my R25 monaco not bad for a 26 year old chap really!

I'm very lucky. Mine went down.  From  about £1,500 to £1,300.

That's not bad at all, I'm 20 and can't get classic insurance on my R18 because it's not valuable enough...

So currently paying about £1100!

Footman James messed me about with unqualified rate hike a year or two back....co-founder Peter James has his own business now under his own name.   I pay £120 for 3 cars - no  mileage limit, allowed to commute, wife to drive.   I had poor service from Adrian Flux in the past as well.   Go to  Peter James.....

I am about have a conversation with Peter James. Last year my premium was £120 for a 1990 Fiesta and a 1980 Maxi. During the year I removed the Maxi and added the Horizon and Princess. This years premium is £190. I will be removing the Fiesta as I no longer have it but that seems quite a hike considering I have not made any claims. The same happened with Footman James a couple of years ago, the premium went up from £120 to £145 ish then to £190, I left them to go to Peter James.

My 205GTi has been with Carole Nash for a couple of years, been the same give or take a quid or so. We'll see next year.

That's a bit worrying.....I have  just  removed one car from the 3 car policy and wont be adding another until after renewal.   Be interesting to see what happens but I have paid the same premium for two years running.   Wonder if they are "hiding" charges for  changes etc?   What I do like about PJ is phoning an insurance company and speaking to a comforting Brummie accent over the phone - no call centres here!

Insurance brokers always seem to do this, hoping that their clients won't bother to ring a competitor for a quote. Not very nice, which is why I tend to change brokers every year.

Exactly. It's pointless really recommending one company over another, as they ALL ramp up the rates, especially after a couple of years it seems. I imagine I'll be quote hunting in December.

I'm currently with Adrian Flux but had a stroppy bird tear strips off me the other day as I'd not phoned around for quotes before going to her for AF's best price.  What was that about?

I really don't like dealing with AF. Pressure selling and quotes four times higher than everyone else.

For reasons best not delved into on here, they were one of only two companies who would entertain me last year.

Flux are scumbags.

I'm with Classicline who have been very good. They hiked mine up last year so I shopped around, got a better quote and they matched it.

By strange coincidence I received an e-mail with an attached quote from Adrian Flux. Due to them being such a pain the arse to deal with over the phone I shall be trying elsewhere. Why the hell would I want key insurance for £15? I can buy a screwdriver for £1.50 and use that. Nobbers!!

My MG Maestro 1600 (LHD) has been insured with Lancaster since the thing hit the road in 2008 - £125 this year including business use, 3,000 mile limit and agreed value (I never sent the photos off, silly me :( ).

The 309 is currently insured with the Co-op, £220 including business use and 7k miles p.a. (from memory) but no agreed value 'cos it's a banger (and my daily driver in theory). The Arizona will possibly go with Adrian Flux next year, read on...

My 205 is insured with Adrian Flux, the previous owner was a member of 'club peugeot uk' and I agreed to sign up with them when I took the car on (I'm good llike that ;) ). They have an arrangement with Flux and the first year's insurance was £171 with an agreed value of £2,500 and 2k miles p.a. (no business use, I won't be using the car for work though I am insured to commute in it).

The Jazz is insured with eSure (who my late wife was insured with, it was her car - now mine - and they agreed to let me take over her 10+ years NCB when she was ill 16 months ago), £240 last time with a 6k mile p.a. limit from memory, no business cover (again, I can commute in it, as I can all of them - but I can't use this one or the 205 for work purposes).

The 205 is a new case for me so ask me next August how the insurance cost goes ;)  - but the MG has always been around £125/150 while the other two have headed south the last few years :) .

And all this in a Bolton postcode! (or :grimacing smilie: .)

I would never even consider NOT spending an hour or so every year at renewal time ringing round half a dozen random brokers and play them off against each other.

Never Adrian Fucks though, never again.

Although I am happy with RH Insurance for my classics they offered to add my daily driver 3 yr old Saab to that policy.

What I didn't realise was that my 9 yrs NCB would then be permanently lost as other insurers wouldn't count a classic policy if I went elsewhere in the future.

Be warned!

I rang Peter James and removed the Fiesta, it has brought the premium down to £136. I will try a couple of alternatives over the next few days to see if I can save a bit more as money is tight but £136 is pretty good imo.

If you punch your details in to "Go Compare" as a normal car insurance search but select mileage <5,000 mile p/y it churns out "classic" quotes.  Typically £80 for a Beetle...£95 for an eighties coupe....£75 for an old Land Rover.  For me anyway.

What's the youngest age a classic insurer'd take, and what are the prices typically like?

I'm 19 next week and I have an extremely unrealisitic hankering for an Audi Coupe GT...

Posted

25 is the blanket number, 21 with some companies and on certain cars. audi coupe at 19,im afraid not. Footman james were the only company to entertain under 25s,on cars under around 1500cc,but they moved the goal posts a few yrs ago.indeed finding any classic insurer willing to insure a sole daily driver is proving difficult.
