The LPG would make it an easy 40+mpg equiv and likely be the most reliable part of the car

All 160s and 190s were manual. The 180 Auto was fairly rare in comparison.

The engine management light on *may* be just that the gas system needs adjusting to bring down the fuel trims when running on LPG. If so, and it's a system with easily available software (i.e. not Prins or BRC!) it would be an easy fix.

Indeed it may be!were it not for the fact it was a (bridge) car too far, i'd have got it and applied the codereader/lack of concern*
