Yeah, seems like a really good idea that*. I'll just go out and start swapping pumps and ECUs over.

Just swap over some injectors and this thread could be an infinite loop.

I am sure the defence of "man off the internet told me to do it" could be applied here in case anyone were to question the correct course of action.

The wife already thinks the blue one "broke itself" I don't want her to see a pattern forming.

Have you got a green one in your watch list for when the red one fails to proceed?

If you are confident / brave, swap parts one at a time from the new one to the old one until the new one doesnt work and the old one does. This should identify what needs repaired so you can get the right parts and repair it.

I dont see how anything could possibly go wrong with this, and it will in no way leave you with two dead cars.

I don't think I'd be brave enough with a modern diesel run by a host of sensors and chips. My cynical thinking regarding modern stuff goes so far as to believe the car may sense you're not doing things the 'correct' way - like using intelligent guesses as to which bit is faulty and substituting s/h bits and pieces.

I'd be worried about ending up in the infinite loop cort16 mentions, with both vehicles - no matter how impossible this may be in reality!

Logic is meant to be the principle of all electronics, but I've seen sufficient nightmare scenarios in vehicles to realise that there is something of the logic of the 70s Shop Steward built into motor vehicle electronics.

▲▲▲▲▲▲ I [honestly] didn't believe that some parts off a scrappy Vlovo won't work on another cos the S/w needs 'synching' - Jeez u on a bike!
