Admiral insurance trouble?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I've had the 320 with admiral since June and added the 735 when bought at end of July.

Swapped across to a multi car policy, both are fully comp.

I've received an email (3 actually) this evening saying they were taking an additional payment as apparently another comparison I ran with them had additional modifications?

The only thing I can think is I may have for an a quote for either the 320 or the 735 to see the difference in cost if I fitted lpg. Only other thought is a scam?

Has anyone had a similar issue? If so how did it get resolved?

I'll be calling them tomorrow to try and resolve.

Cheers.

They'll be able to provide proof of this 'other comparison'...? ;-)

Double confirm, get it all in writing and communicate by e-mail if necessary.  Don't trust they'll do anything you ask them to over the phone.

My old Polo was lowered and on alloys, the insurance company were aware of this.  In an attempt to bring the policy down I asked them what would happen if it were returned to standard.  I was told I'd need an engineer's report and the policy would go up anyway, so I left it mildly dubmonged and didn't fall over in the corners.

I was told by an insurer that if you enquire about a modification before performing it they will often assume you've done it anyway even if you tell them you haven't and unless you can prove otherwise - see engineer's report - you can't do anything other than cancel your policy and insure with a different broker.

It's all shyster bullshit, just like the majority of insurance broker rules.  Best way to foil them is to just do everything by e-mail, they hate it but it means the info you get is accurate.  Mind you, it's not fool proof, Adrian Flux sent out my amended policy with the wrong car on the paperwork but the correct car insured.

It looks as if it is on the 735 policy..

I'll need to ask them to

A advise what modification it was

B prove that it is on the car

Have the number to call tomorrow..

Likely a scam as the comparison websites (and everyone else, plus their dogs and mothers and extended family) sell your information to third parties.

I'd still call them to make sure/call them out on bollocks/have a nice chat.

sounds like a scam to me!

Yeh not sure.. It quotes the policy number. But doesn't mention the vehicle type.

The other engineer at work had something similar. He had about eight speeding convictions that he had forgotten to mention. He declared some of them on a comparison site and his own insurer cancelled his policy.

They did the same to me, well, elephant but the same company.

I put through a quote on a comparison website with additional mods as I wanted to see the price.

I emailed them telling them this and then threatened to involve the financial ombudsman regarding their £25 admin fee.

Sorted it for me!

In your case you'd be aswell to cancel and go somewhere else, to say a big fuck you to them. I was 10 months into the policy you see.

This I think may be the case here. I can't tell them to eff off as they were the cheapest.

Thanks for heads up about what you said.think I'll email them to that effect once I've found out what quote they were referring to.

I remember Tesco wanting another £100+ because alloy wheels were a modification -on a BMW 540i?? Not seen one with trims yet....

On a slightly different track Admiral Multi Car was just old fashioned expensive for me, they wanted £690 for a Merc CLK 320 and a Z3 2.8, got them separately for less than £400 combined elsewhere

Go on a few comparason websites and get many quotes for same vehicles wih other possible mods, sure a Petter 3cyl diesel is a popular mod for 7 series.

LOL:)

I'll remain reasonable and point out the error of their ways. No point in being nasty.

Will update once I've spoken to them at lunchtime. .

I used to have a multi-car policy with Admiral, but ditched them after repeated e-mails and phone calls trying to get me to take out additional cover that meant I was guaranteed a hire car for as long as I might need it after a claim.

During each phone call I had to slowly and carefully explain what the words multi-car policy meant; I have more than one car, and so don't really need to pay extra to guarantee having a hire car. Then they took the money for this anyway off my credit card. No doubt someone under extreme pressure to meet a target that month, or something, and no doubt it was the last person I'd politely told to jog on.

The ombudsman sorted out the relevant e-mails and what-not and I was fully refunded, but that was my finish with them.

As a parting shot though, I made sure they stumped up for the bulk of the cost of a heated windscreen on a Mondeo before my policy ran out.

OK, called and stayed calm.staff very helpful.

Before I bought the car I was running quotes. Whilst waiting for the new plate to be set up (private plate being retained by the seller) I must have ran a quote for it with an auto box by mistake.

they've asked me to email in to confirm it is manual and has had no transmission changes. That has been done.just waiting on confirmation of receipt.

Once that's done should be sorted and no charge applied.

Thanks for the help people, and remember kids 'calm cunts can cure copious conundra'
