Ford Granada mk2 autobox oil?

Recommended Posts

Dumb ass question time!

Im doing a autobox oil and filter change on my 1985 mk2 Granada, its the later type (red dipstick) Ford C3 autobox.

Does anyone know what type/spec of oil I should be using in it? I would assume normal Dexron2 or Dexron3 (the red stuff) but having read up on the interweb some people are saying this isnt the right stuff for this box.

Any suggestions?

Your local motor factors should have the answer to that. If not, ask a dealer.

Dexron II as far as I know, but check with the motor factors anyway, as david says.

Cheers guys.

The reg finder things don't work for my car, it's probably too old!

Opie oils seems to be the only one (Fuchs Titan atf3000) that lists as suitable for the Ford spec M2C9010A oil recommended in the manual.

I've already got some dexron II that I've used for topping up, just making sure it is the right stuff before I go and change the whole gearbox oil for new! I'll have to buy more anyway so will check with the local motor factors first.

iirc some older ford auto boxes need moar oil than max mark to make them  work right

Dextron II.

Since this is hard to get (= expensive) you can also use Dextron III, even if you only do an oil change, i.e. half of the old fluid remains in the box.

Dextron III mixes with Dextron II.

Generally: You can also use Ford Type F and G in transmissions designed for Dextron, but not the other way around!

Entirely btw. this thread is useless without pics.

I expect to see a Granada, a man showered in old Dextron, and a driveway resembling the Prince William Sound.

I thought dex2/3 would be right.

I'm still waiting for the new autobox filter and sump gasket to arrive, and I will need to go get some more oil aswell ( hopefully tomorrow).

The oil that's in the box already isn't dirty at all, and was changed a few years ago when I got the car so it won't be a full oil change. The main aim is to change the filter as I have no history of its last change and the sump gasket weeps a bit anyway!

The cars up on jacks at the moment, it passed its MOT a few days ago, then promptly blew the compression fitting on one of the pas hoses! So that's in bits at the moment too, waiting for a new set of hoses to be made up at Pirtek.

Here's the car before the work.

Progress pics to follow as and when.
