All things falling into place, I should be collecting my latest chod from Warrington on Friday evening, it's got plenty of room for tat hauling in the back, so if anyone needs anything bringing back towards Lincoln or along the M62 infact, then please get in touch, all I ask is a small contribution towards go juice.

I will update this thread accordingly when I set off on my mission.

Phase 1 completes imminently, I have purchased the chod via proxy and it is to be collected and stored until the weekend somewhere deep in Warrington.

What chod are you picking up, a c15? I've recently got a berlingo and it's already earned it's keep by enabling me to recover my own motorbike when it broke down on Saturday.

Indeed I am, this one has enough recent history to choke a donkey so made it worth entrusting my safety to the mobile piss tins that pass for public transport, only a few miles shy of coast to coast for a ratty van!

I was going to offer you a lift as I head up the M1, A50, A500, M6, and M62 on a Friday afternoon, as I head home to Miseryside, but on looking at the map, and googling public transport to say Derby, (which is as close as I come to you), I find that it is quicker for you to get to warrington, than to get to Derby on Pubic Transpot.

That sounds about right for round here, in most cases it's quicker to saddle up the nearest poodle and ride across country than to risk the local pubic transport.

Pooh, I've just seen this thread. If I'd been more observant I would have asked if you could have collected a couple of Daihatsu bits from Cavette for me. No worries I was planning on driving back from Chumley with a bumper sticking out of the window/roof of the Lancia anyway.

Hope all goes well on the collection mate, and live collection threads do seem to go down well around here.

well when the bus turns up!

Grubby train number 1; Lincoln to Nottingham, I'll liven the thread up with a few spots if mu battery allows, no plugs sockets on this glitter sprinkled tues of a metro cammell.

Don't worry about it Tim, there's no rush for the bits and I don't want to put anyone out.

Train number 2, the connection was late so not even time to grab a coffee, but straight on with 2hrs10 of hot, dead, air. This brightly coloured misery is compounded by someone's warm station offal defecating it's unhealthy odour throughout the train, I can only describe it as knock-off beef pot noodle and bin juice.

I have arrived in Birchwood, signed and shook for a van I've yet to see. Will report in tomorrow for the return leg.

Posted

Bollocks, not only did I have to bring a radio on the train for the van, a) it doesn't work and B) someone has taken the speakers out of the van.

Posted

Never mind eh? It gives you chance to listen out for noises. For this reason, the only time I ever drive without the wireless on is when I'm bringing freshly bought tat home for the first time. Though if I had to get right across the country, it'd become monotonous and I want to tune in to Woman's Hour or summert.

I am back, and relatively unscathed save for a quick detour into the bowels of Yorkshire after missing my Junction on the M62.

First thoughts;

The body is pretty good for one of these, the doors are not, but the giffer touch-ups in this case have meant that it's isn't too scruffy on the outside.

The performance first off was, well, awful. Even for a non turbo it was slow, the usual culprit, a cheap rubber mat made a noticeable improvement, but not as much as bending the accelerator pedal away from the bulkhead. Now that a full herd of horses could be engaged, the little van was positively nippy.

The roof rack/ dog vent combo makes for one of the noisiest vehicles ever, also the little plastic dome pulls in any smells you happen to be passing through, which isn't always good.

I will rectify the speaker situation, as well as gracing the van with a better head unit than the OE Blaupunkt one I took with me.

Mechanically it is very good, I replaced the alternator belt before I left as it was well past it's best, but there is also a creaky front bush somewhere that needs looking into.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the new chod, and will be putting it to work later in the week hauling scrap.

Looks tidy!! I bought one of these off Ebay a few years back, it had '12 months MOT' but came with shredded wiper blades, wobbly headlights, no sidelight bulbs and a great thirst for water. It got dumped in a French motorway layby on its 2nd journey and former shiter Torsten spotted it still there a year later.

Cool, I'll know where to go when I want some bits then!

Current plans are to chuck a towbar on it, and perhaps even the Visa Gti steering wheel I have in the garage, then it's just a thorough going over the rusty bits to try and slow the corrosion.

Darn, never mind, I may well be back later in the year for a rear axle for the Ax, so if I beat Skattypie to it, I'll give you a shout.
