Here is my Astra that I gone done brought a few months ago.

The important things: it runs on vegetable oil. It's the Isuzu turbo engine. It has the black interior from an Astra Sport estate. It has a tow bar.

The bad things: It's not as good as the 405 GLDT I sold instead of this (IMO).

I was expecting more from the car to be honest, and apart from the usefulness and load lugging abilities, I can't get on with it and diesels are far too slow for me. :(

The MOT has just run out, so I'm going to put it through another one (maybe this Saturday) once I sort out what I think it will need:

It needs a new shock absorber and driveshaft/cv joint which I will do.

I should scrap it as changing the suspension and MOT'ing it is a whole day of which I cannot spare, but I am of the 'it would be a waste of a car' club and if someone would get some use from it - it takes veggie oil, is an estate and has a tow bar ffs - what is there not to like? It's also got tax until the end of September.

It's in that green colour 99% of the mk3 Astras came in.

It's well worth £400 so can't negotiate on that.

edit: I'm replacing the bits and it's going in for MOT tomorrow! woo!

You're asking to be spammed to high heaven there, Station. Can I respectfully suggest you change it to 'at' instead of @ etc,.

This just went through MOT.

It needed:

A small patch welding on the sill (it was a small hole, about 5cm by 4 cm, where the jack had bent it a bit - I cut the whole square out and welded a new patch in and sealed/painted everything up).

The cv boot re-attaching (the zip tie thing had long since departed and was threatening to prevent ingress of dust, dirt and other road based particulates (OMG no))

A tie rod

It didn't fail on a clicking CV joint or the slightly reboundy shock absorber. I'm putting it back in on Saturday (as I've done all the work - welded the patch, put a new clip on the CV joint, and put a tie rod end on).

I have also ordered new shock absorbers for the front and will probably get a new CV joint, so it'll drive just how Mr Vauxhall devised when he sat at his drawing board in 1990. I have also wired the tow bar in.

Can't you do a little mod on the fuel pump on these then turn the boost up to silly levels for lots of black smoke and much speed.

Though I am a fan of the Isuzu engine (its effing ace), I agree that a 405 TD would be made of better.

The MK3 Cav I had with the same engine was rapid enough to see off a Mk1 Clio 1.8 16v, so theyre hardly "slow".

I think anything with this lump for sale for a price under £500 with a test is ruddy cheap!

Plus it drinks veg through the winter with no winges for moar bonus awesome.

Someone get it bought pls before I get ideas.
