Car SOS

Just catching up with some viewing and last night caught the Car SOS with the RS1600i.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Im sure they all came with twin coils rather than a distributor; one of the unique features of the RS.

So why in the closing shots was there a distributor visible on the rebuilt engine?

Are the coil packs NLA so they had to use a dizzy or can someone shed any further light on this?

the twin coil setup was fairly unreliable back when th RS was a current car

switching to the XR3i dizzy was quite a common fix at the time

Cant seem to find these to watch - anyone got some proper linkys?

Yes they did get twin coils but as been said already, coils often got binned off for a dizzy when they died

So the XR3i and Orion Injection had 105 HP, these had 115 and the Turbo had 130. So what components were different on these than the 105 HP 3i & Orion?

Same problem - II have a "friend" who has managed to download 5 of the first 6 episodes through bit torrents but the rest haven't been uploaded. It's frustrating because they're not available on TV here in the Middle East.

Bottom end is same as XR3.

Head has a different part number with larger ports, larger valves, different profile cam, different inlet, solid lifters and even intake pipe.

Distributorless twin coil, fixed map ECU controlled ignition, with flywheel pickup.

Think that about covers the engine changes between the cars.

Incidentally, my mate was up for the weekend and yesterday he was driving mine about, whilst I chased him an ST500 and I was surprised how well mine shifted. :-)

I enjoyed that Car SOS episode. I always watch it, but they had an awful lot of bodywork to do, this time.

Shame they didn't reinstate the coils - they are easy enough to get, ECU's a bit harder and the flywheel pickup lead seems very tough to find.

Plus, the gearbox is unique to the RSi, so if it had been changed, there is no bellhousing hole for the pickup lead, or it may also have had the flywheel changed, again, this would stop the factory ignition system from being able to work.

They should have sorted the steering wheel, too.

Those seats looked amazing, though. So much for not being able to get the material. Tims marra had a roll full. Lol.

Matey with the red one was a bit of a typical RS buff, though. A strange breed.
