I'd love to try a 960/V90 one day. I got to travel in a late model 960 in eastern Germany in 2009, which was one of the most refined cars I have ever experienced :)

The guy at work who was having my 960 hasn't made a peep so it may be available on here within a couple of weeks. Currently in Sweden using some free Wilson Finnegan to post this so I'll try and catch him when I get home.

The 960 been back together and put into use as my sometime daily driver. It's not that practical for the pokey works car park, so the 205 is usually taken in favour of the lumbering Volvo.

Its deceptively quick, apparently the 3.0 24V lump was co developed with Porsche and it certainly revs freely and makes a nice metallic snarl whilst its at it. I was suprised to find IRS and not a live axle holding the back wheels on. I mistakenly thought all 700/900 series cars had a solid back axle? it doesn't wallow about much, though the fairly low profile rubber seem a bit at odds with its waftbarge nature and has probably taken the edge slightly off the low speed ride comfort.

I took it to quick fit today, lured by a £49 aircon regas. Thought it was just about still working, turns out it was my imagination- the compressor is knackered apparently. Still, they basically did a bit of diagnostic work for me and didnt charge.

I soon grew tired of the tailgate bashing me on the head whenever the hatch was opened and have ordered a set of struts, the best priced OEM ones are on their way from Latvia.

I haven't actually driven it far since buying it, nor done a brim to brim check; a quick browse of the fuelly website shows the big Swede could drink Ollie Reed under the table, pretty much what you would expect really!!

The 1988-on 760s were fitted with multi-link IRS, which was adopted by the 960/90 in due course :)

Must get some new tailgate struts for The Wentworth at some point, as the ones currently on the car are quite weak. I'll probably buy new ones from Parts For Volvos Online, but I'm told that if you are on a budget, mark 2 Ford Mondeo hatchback struts fit quite well...

The larger wheels do make them a bit crashy at low speeds. I thought the 740 on 14s rode better but they do make a difference in the bends. Only four pot 900s had live rear ends for OMGDRIFTWEPUN shenanigans which is almost certainly a good thing as a "live" 960 would be a bit of a handful I reckon.

I don't know why my comment didn't show up here the first time I saw this thread but again I am green with envy. I love these late 960s because they look so unique and well turned out against other Volvos. I may be in danger of parting with money should this come up for sale. If I still have a job waiting fae me here in France then this would definiately be the perfect personal cruising machine.

Looking good fella! As rml and Shep were saying, from the '88MY facelift all 7/960s had IRS; the one I'm breaking has a similar setup at the back with a 2.3 turbo up front.

They're not bad old buses and none of us could catch Dave round the Welsh twisties in his despite us having an 850 in our convoy.

A chap at my last work had one of these, he reckoned he could get upper 20's mpg if you took it steady.
