Any idea what this lot is?

Hi folks,

I've just fitted  the new electric aerial to the merc. (car-masts-uk on ebay and highly recommended). In digging about in the inner wing I came across this little lot screwed into the back part of the boot supports. Was drawing permanent 12v from the aerial's power lead and earthed. The two spade connectors were going to that battery thing. The long white wire went out of a grommet in the boot floor to the outside and ends in a rubber sheath. Any ideas what it is? It wasn't connected to anything else, so felt justified removing it given that it was obviously not original.

Oh and does anyone want it before it goes in the bin recycling.

Vintage carphone would have a green Approved sticker on it. That looks more CB or two-way

Thanks for the replies - what's two way though if it's not a stupid question?

It's not been a taxi in the past has it?

Not being a two door coupe no (and there's no wear to the seats and mileage is low so seems to stack up) . It does have holes for a mobile phone on the side of the centre console though (I've hidden these under a satnav disc thing).

When my godfather was running the "north wales and east Denbighshire water company" his company Rover SDI  had two car phones - a general one and a direct link to the office. That was a wonderful car - metallic gold with brown velour interior.

I would have said a tracker given the separate battery.

That's a thought - there are no extra wires to be connected to that Motorola box, so it could be a transmitter.

It's an early GPS tracking device which consisted of a tiny bread maker, a few worm gears and cogs to break the bread up, and it would drop a piece every 25 yards. Thus anyone wanting to find that car only needed to follow the trail of bread.

Could be - I found a hole in the floor while investigating the blown fuse. Now "fixed" with a wire brush and shutz.

Well if it was, then it's tracking a bin lorry this morning  :-)

Damm - I could have told the insurance company that it was fitted with a tracker!

You can still tell them that it was
