SORN Question

I have just sorn'd the Horizon online, something I have been meaning to do since I got the logbook last week. It was showing as unlicenced and has been since the end of 2012 apparently. The SORN has been backdated to 1st of April 2014, the logbook shows I am the registered keeper since 28th March 2014.

I got a "warning" telling me that the SORN declaration has a gap in it since December 2012 and that DVLA enforcement officers may be in touch!

I'm hoping I will have not got the previous registered keeper in trouble for it as it was showing as unlicenced for over a year of his ownership! Also would they try and procecute me for not declaring it earlier. I couldn't do it anyway till I received the logbook, which was last week!

If you sorned it within a day of taking ownership by backdating it from when you received the logbook, you can tell them FRO if they start getting threatening. Not your fault at all, you did it by the book.

If the old owner gets into trouble, tough titties - not your problem.

I would just make a note of the dates when you sorned it, the date you received the V5 etc just in case they get a bit of amnesia.... Then you can prove you couldn't have done any more than you did.

I got one when I bought the ShiteHawk.

Heard nothing else from them.

In my case it hadnt been SORNed in years before I did it, again it was a case of "you became the registered keeper on blah blah, SORNed on blah we will send the heavy boys round with a Black & Dekker if you are not careful"

The fact the bike looked like :

Made it quite laughable really.

You're basically fucked. They will teleport to your location, wherever you are in the world, and remove your organs for sale on Ebay.

Just tell the c***s you'll see them in court if there's any funny business, and if they carry on see it through to court. Bureaucrats normally bottle out just before the hearing, ignore their offers of compensation just prior to this and actually drag them through it. It's the only language these career no marks understand.

Same here with my Dedra (whose previous owner was an idiot anyway, so I don't care what happened to him). I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

You will honestly hear nothing more. It is a very difficult, complicated, expensive and long drawn-out case for them to prove simply that a box hadn't been ticked. Besides SORNing a car is basically telling them that you are not using the car on the road, the process is free so they have lost no revenue. The "warning" is basically a scare-mongering tactic that'll make you remember to bother doing something about the box ticking thing.

I once forgot to re-SORN one of my Sterlings a few years ago, I got the same warning pop on screen after I had re-SORN'd it. I heard nothing more.
