320touring's Flapwheel Folley!! Update 05/05

So, over at the unit- brother was working on his car, and I decided I'd better start sorting the paintwork on mine..

You know when you sometimes get carried way..

Started off stripping it down and masking it up- sanding back with 80 grit

Got fedup with that, and thought it'd be good if I could clear the "bumps" caused by the corrosion.

Buoyed on by the success of the flapwheel- I decided to tackle the scabby drivers rear quarter.

Sanded back with 600 grit, and primed

Rest of the back primed

First coat of white on- pretty pleased!

so all in all- a most positive shift. Couple of runs to sand down and tidy- but pretty good for a rattle can job. Another coat tomorrow and then a week to harden before cutting should see it right. Only a few small* bits left to do..

I feel like Vulgalour now- winning at the paintery is for winnars!

HA! I once removed a Citroen Dyane's rear door - it took about ten times longer than removing a 2cv's, perhaps a whole minute - and repaired the lower section, then resprayed. Its opposite side was heading the same way, so I sorted it. WTF, the two front doors would benefit from another coat of paint. Easily done. Hmmm, the tailgate is a smallish area and defnitely has a little rust, - ta-daa!

So I stand back. It's a lovely sunny, early May morning. I'm young and naive, (is that still possible with the net? - possibly so) and looked at my work, thought how easy it was to do and wondered why I shouldn't spray the whole bodyshell with the half litre I had left. Hang on a minute, the wings and bonnet would look a little faded if I left them out... and so I did the lot.

In the end, the car was too smart to use - it had lived on the IOW and had almost no miles and I sold it to a cheap car nutta. He ran it for years without anything more than a new set of handbrake pads. When it finally needed a new clutch, he sold it.

The way this is going I'll be doing the bottom 6 inches all the way round. made a big difference to the look of the car already

You have to be careful with flap discs - they are great at removing rust but sometimes leave marks that are difficult to remove.

Flap disc on the 604 worked as a brilliant rust divining tool.

I find using it lightly works best-use the rotation to clear rust, rather than leaning on it..

had some further work done, thought I'd better paint the tailgate too..

And got some doom blue action on too-pics to arrive once I get access to the laptop:)

Rapid piktur updates!!

Another coat on the 320, and also stripped down the tailgate and gave it a coat or two- looks smashing:)

also managed to use my prowess with the flapwheel (oo err!) to convince my Bro to let me sort the rear arch on his doom blue mobile

I wish that I had the ability to paint more than just brackets and wiper arms with aerosols.

dam fine work

Thanks, It'll look significantly better once its cut and polished up- not be perfect, but it'll be better than what was there

Its not ability- its prep work and a steady hand, with a touch of sorting out between coats. Try it on some scrap metal-its all just getting the correct rate of painting. You can do it:)

Its just like getting the right wire speed when welding

As the Clio has had clutch failure it looks like the best/cheapest option is to get the 320 back on the road.

So I got the masking tore off and the rebuilt the rear lights and Locks.. Looks ok, and should cut up of now the paint has hardened
