'Twas a great day apart from that, wasn't it?

Shame Eddy couldn't join us for that part of the day.

Yes, was a very good day (apart from that bit) - nice to see the pics again as I didn't take any myself that day

As you will have noticed, I'm currently wetting myself over an old Volvo estate on the ebay thread.  I keep coming back to them, I do love them.  Two things are holding me back.  I can't really have three cars around me here, it's unfair on my neighbours; and, erm, the timing couldn't be a lot more wrong financially.  Both these factors mean the gloriously shitey MR2 needs to go.

Tax runs out end of June, MoT is February or March from memory.  I've had it serviced and cambelted, it starts every morning, takes me to work smoothly and keeps me dry while so doing.

Price to the public, 750; to a Shiter, 550 fine English pounds.

It does need some paintwork, but there's some new rattlecans of Rover Flame Red, and red primer, that will be included at no extra cost!  You really couldn't do it any harm with that.  Radio works when it wants to (but at least appears to be original) and won't play tapes or CDs at all.  If I had anywhere I needed to go I would happily set off in this, with a firm belief in my/its ability to get there.

Over to you.

Eddy PMd me the other night about this car and I would have been hot-footing my way down to get it by now if my insurance company hadn't pissed all over my dreams with it being a Jap import. The 'regular' policy I've got won't do them and I don't want to have take out a separate policy and take a huge hit on a refund on the one I have.

ALLINSURERSRSHIT etc.... :(

GLWTS, it looks a no brainer at that price. :)

How true.  But thank you for the kind words anyway!

Bump, because I can't pounce on anything else until I have both space and readies.

Over to you.

Eddy, what sort of mileage has this beauty done?

I'll pass the deets on to another MR2 perv I know, see if he knows anyone for it.

Posted

That's good of you Joe, many thanks.  The odo reads 72,000, give or take a dozen or two, but: it appears to have been converted from Kms to miles, so if the first 40,000 (say) were metric, then it's done bugger-all, really.  And it's had a cambelt very recently anyway... ;)

Posted

Is that a thing? Can 'they' make a metric mileometer count the miles?

I'd have thought that either it is still counting the km, (with new plastic faces stuck on the clocks,) or it has had a new cluster fitted (reading miles).

If its the latter, then the mileage could be anything, unless it is well documented int' paperwork.

Apparently it is possible, I would have thought changing a drive wheel somewhere would see to it.  The speedo seems to read accurately enough at various road speeds, which suggests this has happened.  Meanwhile its face says "M/h"... not, notice, "Mph" or even "KM/h."  If you look carefully it does look like a K has been scrubbed off the dial.  I may even have a note that says when this was done, I have a vague memory of such a thing.  Will report back when I've gone through the file.

Posted

the facia of the speedo will have been changed but not the odometer

Posted

I know how far it is from home to work, and it appears to read correctly at both ends of the trip.

That's calender material!

Especially the one of Edd's Samba leading the party!

I had to go to Ulverston today, so a slight dose of hooning may have happened along the coast road, a little bit.  Both ways.  On the return trip the weather was much better so the hooning was rather more spirited, until I got a new Corsa in front of me.  Didn't realise they were only capable of 28mph even in open country, that can't possibly be safe can it?

Bump.  I now have the tax renewal notice, so I can tax it at cost for the lucky buyer, or if the month expires before someone gives me money, I'll have to work out an adjustment that won't hurt either party.

Posted

Bump, so that anyone interested can read back to the price details.  £750 to the outside world, £550 to Shiters, plus the cost of re-taxing it at the end of the month (if you wanted me to take care of that ahead of collection).

Bump.  I may have a sale!  However, it's dependant on my mate selling his Fiesta, so

because anything can happen in the next half-hour!

There will be a Fiesta For Sale thread.  Urgency applies...

Dave is having this, next week.  Result!  His decision came as a bit of a surprise though, he's 80!  He's a fit 80 though, could easily pass for 65.

So, with last Sunday's show coming up I decided to have a crack at sorting out some of the paint blemishes, repainting the original badges and refitting them.  I've got pics on the other computer, but there doesn't seem much point now because by next weekend I'll be driving something else.  Let's just say, Rover Flame Red looked a perfect match in the shop, but doesn't in daylight.

Posted

That's good Eddy, coz I didn't come up with a buyer for you.

What are you having next?

Posted

Don't know, Joe!  I'm all over ebay right now, bidding on this and that.... one finishing in an hour (RNM), one tomorrow that might be a better bet, and a list to follow them, but we will see, won't we?  Anything can happen...

Posted

Thank you, but there are two rather major factors against that.  It's too young; I want older than the MR2 rather than younger, the only things I want to look at this side of 20 years old would be American.  Also, it's FWD, same applies.  I'm all over ebay like a plague...

No probs Eddy.

The seller, Richard is a really nice bloke, I've just bought a load cover from him. Very reasonable too.

Well, I've bought a replacement... pics tomorrow night, including trains.

HOT NEWS!  This little beauty is For Sale again.  Dave has decided it's a long way down for someone of his age, so he's looking at a Focus he's been offered.  To which end, obviously he wants to sell the MR2.  He's looking for 800, but there will be some Shiter discount available.  It might seem a lot, but he's had it resprayed, as well as a couple of new tyres, new radio and aerial.  It's got plenty of MoT.  Location: Southport (Lancashire coast, for the tourists).  PM me for his phone number as he doesn't have internet.

It's back.  Dave fell in love with my Saab, so I've done a deal with him and we made the exchange today.  I'm now an MR2 owner again (and I'd forgotten how easily it zips up to some real speeds) but for how long?  Anything can happen, watch this space, etc...
