Spanish plated car in the UK

Hi there. This is my first post. I have a Spanish plated car which i drove over from Alicante, where i have a flat, and it's been in the UK for nearly 6 months now.... I'm aware that you're not supposed to drive in the UK on foreign plates for more than 6 months, and I'm going to drive the car back to Spain (indefinitely) in August, but in the meantime is it problematic driving it here... ie will it get picked up as an illegal car, in the same way an unregistered/ taxed etc car would, if so, would something as trivial as driving it over to France for a day render it 'legal' again for the next few months prior to my driving it back to Spain, simply because it hasnt been in the UK for over 6 months at a time?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

not unless the plod know the ins and outs of the itv and spanish car tax system no

as long as its roadworthy and insured you should be fine as long as you dont get pulled for something daft

like you say itll be going back permanently anyway soon

the thing about the day of the 6 months is up and then trip to france and it resets itself is bolox - the spanish forums and eu law say it doesnt work like that (shame)

Within the EU, the 183-day-rule applies.

The car must be registered, where it spends the most time of the year.

There is no grace period either, if it is clear from the onset where you spend the most time,

the car must be registered there immediately, not after six months.

A one day trip to France doesn't change the legal status one little bit.

However, I'd just chance it and tell the plod the story of the purple pig.

They'll let you get away with it, wanna bet?

You want to travel to Derby, and see the numbers of foreign reg cars on the roads.  I guarantee that Plod don't care.

I can vouch for that pod. I live just outside derby. I have seen a lot of polish and Latvian motors.
