I can haz free Orion shite?

Right, I'm asking on behalf of a friend, with a vested interest because this car MAY end up being mine if the Merc does indeed end up getting written off, and IF I/we can get it running and testable.

He's been clearing out an old house which use to belong to an old lady (who has now passed on) and has found a 1989 Ford Orion in the garden...I've not seen the car with my own eyes, but according to him it's not too borked body work wise and looks like it could live to run rich another day. Problem is, it has no history, log book or paperwork of any description at all anywhere in the house or in the car itself.  Apprently the old biddy chucked a load of stuff on the bonfire shortly before she died, so I'm gussing that's where the paperwork went... Obviously the family are more than happy for someone to take it away and do it up, but if there's no logbook and what have you, is there a way it can legally change hands?

All I know is that it is blue with white wheel trims and has been sitting in a garden for three years.

My friend says if I want it I can have it, and free shite is never to be overlooked!

Write to the DVLA Lookyou hereboyo-isn't, explain the situation and ask for advice? Dunno what the Swansea lot are like, but the Ballymena County Hall Yins are usually pretty helpful with non-routine stuff, as it tends to get passed "up the food chain" away from the grunts.

I say go fae it. To get the logbook I think you need to write the DVLA or summat and explain the situation. If the car itself does turn out to be borked, take some savable bits off to sell and chuck the rest over the bridge.

Cheers chaps! I may have contact them, but I'm worried about being billed £11000.000000.92720000 the moment they open my letter knowing what they're like.

Fill out a V62 form and send it off to doovla. You will need the reg number and chassis number.

If you get it MOT'd before the V5 comes back I think you can now tax cars off a V62 (don't quote me though)

meggersdog beat me to it. If it's insured and MOT'd you can tax it without the V5. Come to think of it, you don't need proof of either now, so just pop down to the PO with the reciept you got from your mate and come back with some lovely road tax!!

I will let you know what happens...

Don't hate too much (yet). It might be fizzing with rot and have a body in the boot when I go to look at it.

Orion... Fwoar!

Wouldn't mind coming round and chucking some yoghurt on that. Or you could put some pictures up and save me the petrol money.

As long as you have a receipt from the relatives, saying that you are now the new owner, then get hold of dvla and see where it goes,if all ok,apply for the logbook

Also, invest in a mig welder

 yeah fair point. Will this be a twink?

A twink? Isn't that a gay teenage boy?

Not a twink. '89 will be a CVH and most likely a rotted out front crossmember.
