NOW BACK ON SALE!!!!    Ã‚£450 ONO     EDIT Now damaged so £100.

I bought Garethj's Pug 1995 (N) 205 1.8 diesel last year.  He had used it for a while as a commuter wagon.  I gave it to my wife, who has used it for mostly local pootling, with just a couple of longer range trips.  It flew through its MoT and has given us no trouble.  It lets water in behind the front passenger seat, and therefore gets steamed up inside, and currently needs a brake light bulb, but otherwise seems pretty OK. It needs a good wash and interior clean, but should scrub up alright.

High mileage, but engine seems to chug on, and the car is in good cosmetic condition.  Someone has put 1.6 GTi wheels on it, and GTi side bars. Gareth fitted some decent tyres just before he sold it to me.   Very basic pov spec inside.  Power steering ( a good idea as the engine is a bit heavy) but no other luxuries.  No rev counter, broken clock. Good stereo fitted by Gareth.  Panel lights a bit dim.   Decent blue patterned cloth seats in fair nick.  Original handbook with a few stamps from the supplying dealer.

I have found a replacement car for my wife (a 206). as although there is nowt really wrong with the 205 car my wife does not like it very much. She used to have a GTi back in the day and she finds this oil burning chugger too chuggy.  She also thinks it is too old fashioned in terms of crash protection.  Not something that worries me (or used to worry her when she bombed around in her old GTi), but there you are.

The car is not fast, but it handles very pleasantly.   It has that proper 205 wheel at each corner feel, and the power steering is well weighted and doesn't make the steering lifeless.  Great economy - approx 59 mpg.   Always starts first go, even if left in the rain for ages.

I could sell it on now, or wait until April when I will give my wife the replacement car as a birthday present (me, Mr Romance, me, giving French chod as birthday gift).   I have collected the 206  and stashed it with a local garage  to surprise wifey on her birthday.

I just waft it up here in case anyone fancies one of these.  If no interest, I will try again later in the year.

Photos of car taken last year when clean to follow.  Current photo will show car looking a bit dirty with steamed up windows cos of wet carpet in the back, but it hasn't changed much since last year.   Tax to end of April, MoT to August.  EDIT EDIT EDIT ; 22 October 2014, actually.  Derrr.

It's red, by the way, a three door, and looks fairly dinky when not covered in ye countrye mudde.

I reckon about £500 is fair for one of these.    Maybe even a bit more on an infuriating auction site populated by the world's biggest fuckwits, but keeping it within the AS gang might be nice.

EDIT EDIT EDIT  Price reduced to £450

EDIT:  couple of photos now posted below.

Great cars these. Was sorely tempted when it was last up for sale but kind of been there done that. Was fairly fresh from 205/309 ownership at the time and now have (currently fubar) derv clio doing a shite job of omgmpg motoring so I'm still out.

Aren't all of these Lucus pumps? Mega mpg's anyway so I wouldn't let that put anyone off.

I hear rumours that there are some knocking about with Bosch chip fat pumps, but, as you say, given the mega MPG the presence of a Lucas pump ought not to be a huge issue.

This photo is (a) more recent than the one above, and (b] far more rubbish.  It was taken just a few weeks ago.  The car was all frosted up as it was a cold morning.

Not rumours, the last one I purchased has a Bosch fuel pump, all my other diesel 205's have lucas pumps. The lucas pump might not be chip fat friendly but has not given much trouble even in my 500000 mile plus 205.

Only on Autoshite can you read these fine words:

"all my other diesel 205s have...".

Fancy a trade with Luton's finest* 4x4?

Not an inherently bad idea, but I have just done a stupid and bought an old Landy.

The car is now informally spoken for, but if the deal doesn't go through I will float it on the throbbing and vibrant AS chod market again in a month or so.

Ah, but that will be built in Blois, France.  Oh at the peak they were turning out 25K yes that many DPC pumps a week.  1.3 million a year. 1 every 6 seconds.

I so enjoyed my 45 minutes looking at where they fitted our on/off solenoid.

Welcome to the Forum.  Yes, the Pug is still for sale.

The car is located minutes from the M40, about a mile from a London coach stop, and 8 miles from a railway station which is 40 minutes from London.

what you asking for it?  does it have lunar mileage?

Guest Breadvan72

Five hundred spondools.  139,997 miles showing today.  I do not know if that counts as Lunar for one of these normally aspirated 1.8 diesels, but I am not an expert on this or any engine type!

Do not use those rubbish sites!  Ring up Footman James or another classic insurer, or use a broker.    Get on the phone and haggle.  You should be able to do better than that, unless you have a long rap sheet.

I find that if you keep saying politely to insurers "no, that is too much", they often respond by lowering the price, but this only works on the phone, not on the net.

ok will look at footman, thats who i was insured last year on my gti, lol it was only £100,
