I call bullshit. I don't believe Frank Gallagher went to school enough to remember his teachers. ;-)

Infants. MR Suntert the Headmaster had a turquoise Lreg Humber Sceptre Mrs Bateman had a Pea Green Mreg Marina Jubilee. They were the only interesting ones from infants and juniors. High school was a different matter though.

Mr Hartley had a S reg 2cv which was very new then and was building a 2cv kit car thingy which he started building in one of the school outbuildings in around 79 and it was still a chassis in 83 when I left.

Mr Proctor had a bright yellow 1300E Escort which he bought new in 73 and still had in the early 90s.

Mr and Mrs Crawshaw had two matching black S reg Chrysler Alpines even the reg numbers followed on.

The best one though went to Mr Ilot who had a 30s Wolsley that he used has his everyday car.......it was simply stunning. You would see him fully dressed in 1930s clothes with the sunroof open and his arm out of the window looking just sooooooo cool.

My secondary school was in a small Welsh seaside town with a Volvo dealer at one end Lloyd Motors and Lyn Davies,a Mazda dealer at the other end . Most teachers shopped at one or the other.

Head teacher- orange 244DL

Deputy head - white 164 -small bumpers, red leather

Biology - silver 244 anniversary thing

Maths - yellow Volvo badged Daf 66

History - a skeletal man called Mathews- christened Bony M. He was a Burma railway survivor and never spoke of it, we didn't care and took the piss - kids are cunts! Anyway I digress- metallic purple Mazda 818.

Lots of nasty little blue Mazda 1000's etc

Other notables PE/ Maths- total sadistic wankstain called Ken Griffiths- white V4 Zephyr, that and a Commer minibus could take the first 15 + subs and teachers to away games all over mid-Wales. Neither of them could do more than 50 on the flat.

Geography teacher-orange Morris 1300GT

Chemistry- looked like Leonard Rossiter- grey mk2 Cortina estate.

Cookery- massive tis- silver Scirrocco.

At primary school, Mr Mason the PE teacher had a Nova SR in white. Early model, thick-slat grille that had melted in the middle and gone all droopy. Three spokes and yellow bumper trim. Mr Walters the head teacher started out with a Mk2 Granada Ghia which I distinctly remember helping to push through the carpark in the snow (you know, because a 7 year old has a huge influence on the motion of a car that size), then before I left he'd got himself a Lancia Thema. There was a teacher with a red Allegro but can't picture who it was. My childminder had a beige Mk2 Cavalier CDi, and at one point I remember her having to take all the kids she looked after in a Mazda 929 - properly wedged in wherever they'd fit. I'm sure it had wood trim down the outside of the car! Was lovely and brown anyway. One of the other kids she minded was dropped off in a beige Allegro 3 (3? The last ones before everyone stopped buying them)

On to comprehensive school where the geography teacher who probably had a name, definitely had a facelift Metro in red. Must have been a nice one, had body colour bumpers. I remember some of the naughtier lads (definitely* wasn't involved) lifting it by the wheelarches and moving it so it was up against the cars next to it. Mr Kennedy the english teacher was a proper cool teacher in his purple Mini, blacked-out windows and farty exhaust. Used to send kids out with the keys to fetch cassette tapes to play in class. Mr Cawthorne who did history had a red SD1, which was handy as I don't think he'd physically fit in anything smaller. Mr Garton the physics teacher had a Capri 2.8i which must have been cleaned daily as it never looked dirty. Mrs Rosser (Home Ec) had a metallic red 800 Coupe, fancy-pants private plate like 31R or something.

The supply teacher who someone claimed "touched them" and we never saw again had an Opel Kadette estate, in disgusting must-have-been-a-fleet-order-in-company-colours yellowy orange. It was RHD too, yet not a Vauxhall. It did look like he lived in the back though, and he also looked like he lived in the back.

Mid Sixties.

Our R.I. teacher - Beaky, had a brand spanking new Riley Elf.

Everyone hated Beaky, so the older lads completely trashed the Elf one fine day.

Most days at college I see a K-reg white Audi Coupé with some tasteful five-spoke alloys, and a red Mazda 121 (Fiesta version). No idea whose they are, though.

Of the five staff in the college that bear relevance to me, two cycle in, one gets the bus, one gets a lift in an oldish Zafira, and one has a Bini.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any good spots at uni.

Head (Beaky) was going through a divorce an smoked around in a red Fiesta 950 pop plus

Deputy Head "Spoke" Wheeler had a Rover SD1 3500 in glorious brown

Maths Pinchon had a silver Sierra 2.0 Ghia

PE Cannard had a light metallic green Sierra 1.6 Ghia

Needlework Lloyd had an MGB GT

Geography Dibden had a Mazda 323 1.5 like the green one a few pages back

French Unwin had a battered up MkII Escort 1.3 estate

History Claydove had a VW Derby

Biology Edyvane had a spanking new BX 1.6TRS

RE Bradburn had a Mini 850

Economics Dobson had a GT6 and later a Lancia HPE (not a VX sadly)

English Conquest didn't have a car, a TV, any grip on reality whatsoever, but I did see him years later driving a pale yellow Talbot Solara so he's OK again

Metalwork Powel had a Morgan 4/4

Woodwork Meachin had a Volvo 343 DL

Music Cooper had a Skoda 110R coupe followed by a Renault 4

Music Wright had a Metro HLE

I'm typing this as I am drinking a pint of water trying to flush last night's beer out of my system.

Headmistress at my first school (early to mid 1980s) had a 1970s Toyota Cressida. I didn't realise at the time what car it was. I remember sitting by the window in the school canteen looking at the joined up script on the car wondering it said. This was replaced with a brown Volvo 343, nice.

My year 3 teacher who was very strict (bit like Prime Minister Maggie Thatcher) had a green Hillman Imp. My year 4 teacher I think had a white or cream Toyota Corolla (curvy mid 1970s shape). Quite a few interesting car options.

Into middle school 1986-1990 and the rather intimidating ex-army headmaster had several Volvo estates of the 200 and 700 variety. Deputy Head had a Montego. Most interestingly, one of my teachers whose specialism was in Art had a Citroen Visa. 8) Another one had a Toyota Corolla E80 liftback which was replaced by an E90 liftback.

Into the rough and ready high school 1990-1996. This will excite some of you: not a car person, the headmistress had a modest, off white C reg Renault 18 (fairly basic - TS spec?). This was replaced with a new L reg Renault 19 phase II, again basic in white with matt black bumpers.

In true Tory fashion of the time, and for some unfathomable reason the school had 3 Deputy Headmasters. Maybe the Headmistress wanted 3 'gatekeepers' between her and the rest of the teachers and parents of pupils. One of them, who I didn't like and thankfully retired in 1991/2 had a Rover SD3 Vanden Plas.

Down to 2 Deputy Heads now, one of which was my English teacher. An interesting chap from Newcastle from a poor background but managed to get into a grammar school and get to where he was then in his career. He failed to get me interested in Shakespeare with Macbeth but I was more interested in his cars. He had an early Granada Scorpio 2.8i which I thought was the dog's... B) It was burgandy I think. It was eventually replaced with a shiny black H reg Sierra 1.8 LX. The Scorpio must have been costing him a bomb to run!

The other Deputy Head, who taught me French, had a blue Ford Escort Eclipse. Probably bought new at the time.

Weapons grade shite territory now. One of the Science teachers, nicknamed 'Kenny Everett', had an X reg Skoda Estelle in that default Orangey red that most Skodas came in at the time. Replaced by a Skoda Favorit by the time I was in 6th form. My Sierra/Scorpio owning Deputy Head English teacher ripped the piss about Kenny Everett's Skoda once in class. My classmates found it funny, I probably chuckled too but I had an underlying respect for Kenny Everett and his Skoda. :)

One of the Geography teachers had a rough looking X reg Citroen 2CV (rather stereotypically!). She eventually taught me for A level Geography but the Citroen was replaced by something boring by then.

My Form Tutor & PE Teacher who also moonlighted at History had a terra cotta coloured Vauxhall Cavalier L hatchback. Wasn't sure if it was a 1.3 or 1.6. The registration was BKK 981Y.  He kindly gave me a lift home in it one lunchtime as I headbutted one of the bullies during a game of hockey. We both got suspended from PE for a few weeks (neither of us were that bothered!). I told PE teacher that he and his cronies are probably waiting outside the changing rooms to beat me up, hence the protection and lift home for which I was grateful. I was the school for a day or two as the chap I headbutted wasn't well liked.

I lived quite close to my school. In 1997/8 I chatted to the PE Teacher as I was outside by my Escort and he was on a trip to the shops. "You have a newer car than me now!" he said. Seems like the Cavalier was still doing a sterling service for him. :)

My scholl days often feel like a bad memory that I've managed to supress, so I can't recall that many teachers' cars, though one or two stand out. I was at junior school in the late 80s and I'm certain one of the teachers had a TVR3000 coupe, which was in a fairly shabby state at the time.

During the latter years of secondary school a certain Mr Hunt had a yellow Meastro, so was obviously a shy and retiring shiteist. The best car in the car park (apart from the Maestro, obviously) was a red Audi 90 sport that was either G or H reg and looked very much like this.

First post after a long time lurking.

First teacher's car I can remember is my infant school headmistress Mrs Porter's orange Mini 1275 GT. I think it would have been on a N plate. I have better recollection of the caretaker Mr Freer's green Opel Kadett because it would often be at the allotment near to my dad's plot. Mr Freer was a fearful bastard in school who all the teachers were frightened of but he was an absolute gent on the plot and him and my dad were always having a laugh about stuff that went over my five year old head.

Going up to junior school, Mr Perry had a pale blue Moskvitch 408 which was instantly a target of much derision, what with most of our dads driving Cortinas or Vivas.

Then I moved to a different school, thanks to my dad flogging his maroon MK 3 Cortina 1600L for a considerable profit thanks to rampaging inflation and using the money to put down a deposit on a house. He replaced the Cortina with a very old Mini (VJL 125. It looked like a brand new S reg from a long distance) and then a Morris 1800 S which he loved, went like stink but also used petrol at an obscene rate. The only cars I can recall from my new school are Miss Challis's red Mini City, Mr Woolard's yellow Cavalier fastback and an Alfa Romeo Spider that Gareth Arbon dented whist doing a Danny Zuco out of Grease style rendition of Grease Lightning on the bonnet. Good job he was the heir to a local hardware and motor spares shop.

Senior school highlights were the gorgeous Art teacher Miss Derham's blue Fiat 126, of which Ashley Dry enquired of her gruffly when she would be getting the other half of her car, History teacher Mr Harrop's red Chrysler Avenger GL, which elevated him to the ranks of Tony Pond and Roger Clark due to it being a GL, Geography teacher Mr Davison's Volvo 240 which he replaced with an Audi 100 when it was the most aerodynamic car in the world and headmaster Mr Parkin's succession of Lancias which went from Beta Berlina to Prisma to Thema which were always black. Mr Parkin taught the occasional French lesson and spent one talking about Citroen's hydraulic suspension system, which made more sense to most of us than working out when to say tu or vous.
