Tracing the forgotten reg of your old cars?

It would be nice to find out what happened to my old cars, but sadly I am crap at remembering reg numbers. I can remember bits of them, for example my Austin Metro was G*** RTY - so my mates girlfriend decided 'she' was called Gerty. I remember that bit easy enough however the rest is a blank. My old Jetta was H*** VVV, but again I forget the rest long ago.

So, basically, is there a way to check what cars have been registered in your name?

I would love to find out what happened to my old MK2 Sierra which was written off by the insurance co. but I definitely know was then sold again to someone - but for the life of me can't remember that damn reg!

There's a website somewhere with massive lists of registrations, and some people put pictures up of the car that goes with the plate. Not many plates actually have pictures to them though, and it seems to think Q is allowed in plates...

Q is allowed in plates -  it`s for vehicles that have an unknown history.

***Edit: it`s for vehicles the age of which can not be determined.

Ah, I was unclear - it had Q in the suffixes on prefix plates, etc. I know Q is a valid prefix.

Would love to know what happened to my grandfather's Consul, but despite owning and cherishing it for over twenty years the best the collective family memory can cough up is that the reg contained "MM".

Sadly not that I am aware; in the case of the Sierra I was required by the insurance company to send the FSH or they wouldn't give me the full payout. I know for definite it was sold as I received a snotty letter from the DOOVLA kindly* informing me that someone else was trying to register the car. I'm guessing that if someone was trying to re-register it then it means it wasn't bangered/raped and was going back on the road?

I would dearly love to know if my dad's Maestro Turbo survives. Last seen around Sunderland in 2000ish in faded dayglo orange with Cosworth vents and TSW Venoms, but otherwise clean and tidy.

Asked my dad again about that Consul, he says the number 6983 rings a bell, so MM 6983 or 6983 MM? Neither of those mean anything to the DVLA website. It was sold to an enthusiast in Littlehampton or Rustington in 1982 who wanted to 'modify' it, that always gave me hope it was stashed in a garage somewhere.

Can't you get the DVLA to tell you details of cars you have owned under the freedom of information act?(or disclosure act, whatever one it is)
