I've had the same problems in my Clio 2, so I feel a bit of kindred spirit there! Filed a bolt down to get the sump plug off (wasn't there supposed to be a tool in the car toolkit for that?) and sealed the sunroof about ten times.

Yours is just cooler though. How's it running now?

I would prefer the turbo ones in all honesty, 18 turbos look fantastic.

Today I took the car for a drive on one of my favourite roads

It's running quite nice now.

The carb still needs a little adjusting on the mixture and idle but it's perfectly drivable as is.

The carb mounting screws came a little loose the other day and I couldn't find a 12mm spanner to do them up again.

The beauty of carbs is you can just turn the idle up and it drives without cutting out, albeit revving its tits off when stationary.

Eventually borrowed a mates spanner and all is good.

Here's my latest dilemma

UBYeX6h.jpg

Going to repair it as don't have any cash for a new wing, but have plenty of gas and steel.

Plus I don't think it'll be easy to find a new wing!

Great that you can weld, must be really satisfying to fix rather than bin a rotten panel.

( runs off to read his welding book)

.... you will be buying a 'cake tray' from Poondland, having both the requisite form/pressed profile + as thin as the original wing (braze it in.....!)

Haha! they are ridiculously thin.

I always use zintec steel so the repair should last much longer than the rest of the wing.

It is good to be able to fix panels but I wish I had more free cash, as I could be spending my time working on the Cortina instead.

Here's my progress today.

Ran out of steel so had to use a bit of a polo door.

Once ground down and skimmed with filler it'll look nice.

I initially welded it up off the car, then tried to fit it and my repair was too short, so had to start again, this time tacking it all in place on the car.

I had no reference except the nearside wing as it was all crumbled.

Was a bit of a nightmare.

Sounds like time for a few celebratory beers then!

Would be lying if I said I wasn't absolutely hooped, started on it straight after work at 12 and finished at 8.

Sounds like a shout to me.

Todays progress, not too much as something_awful and nisfan came to swap some wheels for the interior of my 340.

Wing fits great at the front and is solid now.

Also welded in my repair section for the bottom of the wing.

Just a small repair to do at the bottom then its grinding down the welds and filling but at the moment it looks like it'll fit just fine.

Moar pics of broon renner pls

You got rose tinted glasses m8 (green + rose = brown)?

(It's green)

Yeah, I meant the one in the garage with the rubber spoiler. Must be brown or tobacco?

Finally finished the welding on the drivers side today after 2 weeks!

I was expecting it to be a small 2x2" patch when I started.

The other side feels crusty but I'm not going to start poking at that till next month.

Now just need to seam seal, primer and paint, and also need to fill the wing a bit.

Will be patchy until the warmer weather comes unfortunately.

Hit a speed bump at 80 and broke both front springs.

Only joking,

Can't wait to see it when it's painted, What colour are you going? This would look decent with a roofrack!
