Been a while since I've been on - a brief shite update...

first up - a 1977 series 3 88"..2.5 diesel lump, started life as a soft top but a luxurious conversion to a station wagon in 2006! It's even got foam padded seats!

and a 3 tonne Sankey type trailer to go with it - this is an ex RAF Rapier missile magazine would have been part of a raper battery. It's a quality bit of kit and the nato tow hook means it's tricky to nick!

hydraulic brakes - very reassuring when coming down beattock or Shap!

I CAN HAZ CX! - tiz a CX25 Gti - the automatic grand tourer. This was pressed into daily family use last month when the air suspension packed in on the P38 (took me a month to fix)

Obviously, being a CX it causes a MASSIVE STIFFY every time I get behind the wheel

tomorrows installment includes:

-the 1974 Land Rover series 3 109" 2.25 petrol commercial - this is a beast

-Mrs P's P38 v8 on LPG - now i've got my head around the air suspension system (mikey mouse compared to the CX) AND the software to reprogramme it when it goes wrong I am quite impressed with this vehicle, fast, quiet comfortable very powerful and with the LPG not too expensive

- a 1997 very late edition 50th anniversary Discovery 1 300 tdi auto - a bit gay because obviously, coil sprung land rovers are for cowards and hairdressers

- a 1996 LWB Pajero chip van special

Woo! Some rather swanky stuff there. THose upper bulkhead and pillar problems can be annoying to fix.

yeah - going to be fun with the welder! - fortunately the rest of the Bulkhead ain't too bad and as we now run a media blasting and rust treatment company we've got the kit to soda blast it and repair it without too much sweat.

That's a cracking little SWB, nice work!

I pretty much use both the 88* and the 109" as daily drives at the moment.

I replaced the starter motor, alternator, earthing, cables, and filters on the 88" and fitted the biggest bastard of a lucas battery I could find. I've also replaced the glow plugs and the LUCAS cold start system (which is pash). Need to do some soldering with the glow plugs so they have been disconnected for the last month, fortunately because of the new charging components, starter and battery it starts after 10 seconds on the key sans glow plugs even when well below zero and with chip fat in the tank! Mind you the neighbours get a bit pissed off with the huge clouds of uncombusted fuel which fog up the entire street on starting!

The 109 needs some work - the exhaust pipe seems to come from a maestro and the winch needs new bearings and brushes...

That CX looks ace! 8)

I loved the one I had, and it does look smart on Alfa 156 alloys, the soft round styling of them suite the CX shape so much better than any of the spoked designs IMO.

More on the CX please. :-D

Love the series 3 , had several in the family as a kid so will always have a soft spot for them.

Are you running it on chip fat? Didint those 2.25/2.5 engines have the old Lucas pump shoved where the dizzy was?

If so it wont like chip fat for long.

seems pretty fine on it - less sensitive than the more modern pumps - remember hour viscous 'old' diesel was in the cold? anyway we run 50/50 or 80/20 veg to petrol - makes for interesting EMISHUNZ

That CX has given me the horn.

I must also thank you for pointing out the rust on the LR, it would have been hard to spot otherwise.
