Birmingham insurance Costs with added WTF

So I planned on getting myself a bit of track shite this year for fun and looked at the cost of insuring a Ford Puma (cheap to buy, fun to drive, cheap to fix). now I am 41, live in a nicish part of town, put a 4000 mile limit on the policy and have 9 years no claims on another car (though nothing to transfer).

The quotes can back with a min of 650 quid and phoning a few places up didn't help much. As the puma is group 13 I wondered if some slower tin would be cheaper. Entering the same details of a seicento sporting (group 3) got me down to 570 quid.

WTF do the insurance think I'm doing in these cars? Racing them from crack den to gang fight? My group 11 V40 costs 320 a year and that's with 15000 miles as typical milelage. I don't get it.

To add to this insult the group 16 datsun costs under 200 a year to insure and that includes breakdown cover.

Statistics and the black art of Insurance evaluation.  It's surprising just how much insurance doesn't cover for what you actually pay them.  I mean really, every year you pay £X and it goes into a big mystery pot and you see nothing in return beyond the peace of mind that if something should happen you're covered financially.

Well, unless your car is too old (more than 3 years) in which case they write it off.  Then if you don't salvage it they sell it on for profit through something like Copart.  If you can salvage it back you pay them for the privilege and the car gets an insurance marker against it which makes it more expensive to insure.

Not that I'm bitter, or anything, but of all the people I've known that have made insurance claims for accidents and theft, only 1 got his car repaired and his was a nearly new car.  The second accident wrote it off because it was uneconomical to repair, but still able to be repaired.

Uh oh, I'm careening into insurance rant territory and we all know that will only fire up the Shitpeas Scammel Image Generator.

Where the hell do you live? Cuckoo Road by Stab City looking at those quotes...

Add the vehicle to an existing policy? Did you say its parked offroad or garaged? Park on street generally helps.

How many firms/brokers did you try?

Failing that, 'insert standard insurance rant here'

Because it's a legality to have insurance to drive a car.

They put mine up 200 quid this year, regardless of my 6 years NCB. Their reason was 'that's how it is, it's just gone up'.

They still haven't given me my trade insurance log in or my certificate, the TWATS.

I'm in the B16 postcode zone which includes Ladywood (which is stab city's ugly cousin) so I get shat on from great height for car insurance

If I was a few roads over then it would be B17 and Harbourne based so the insurance companies would love me. Arse.

Time to find a car storage location that is out of town.

I'm assuming they are for standard 'modern daily driver' type insurance? Would probably work out a lot cheaper if you could get something you can insure on a classic policy/

My first search was through classic policies, then I phoned up and the Puma was not valid for a classic policy, the Proton Coupe would be if in showroom condition. (both cars at 15 years old)

I need to find a classic policy company with low standards.

Even the standard policies were limited mileage with notice that I had 2 other cars, so should have been reduced cost.

I won't stop digging yet but it looks like pot luck is the only way I'll find a decent quote for the car being based at my current address.
