New year optimism

Not that I'm optimistic - I'm talking about the optimism some people seem to have when they are looking for something.

I am looking for a seat cowl for my 'busa, while scanning gumtree I saw a wanted request - somebody looking for a busa project, but £1000 maximum.

Seeing as the kit car fraternity will pay more than that for the motor, I suggest this bloke will be wanting for quite some time, possibly forever.

I was on the Rover SD1 club forum a few weeks back, I saw another "wanted" request - somebody was looking for " a V8 SD1 in good condition with tax and test for a grand."

Somebody immediately replied "You dont want much do you?"

I pointed out that he was at least £500 shy, and for that money it will still have issues.

All that remains for me to say is have a great new year's eve everybody - hopefully I will be drowning in red wine by midnight.

I'm optimistic that the wife won't go nuts when I give in and bid on this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-PORSCHE-944-WHITE-/251414152373?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a897384b5

I'm just having a beer working out how to sell it to her as a good idea 'Well the Datsun's working now love, so I need another unreliable sports car in my life'

...and happy new year to you to

Ply her with drink tonight. Get her pissed. Wait until morning then casually bring up the topic over breakfast. " Remember the car we talked about last night and you suggested that we buy it love"

If you do go for that 944 I'd factor in the cost of some replacement wheels as the ones pictured on the car appear to be the wrong offset.

Has he not bunged the road going wheels on and looks funny with the body kit on?

Nothing wrong with putting a speculative advert out. All it takes is one person under marital pressure to get shut and you can bag a bargain.

Would also question the condition of the sill structure TBH. The fact that it has an MOT and side skirts may be related. Can o worms possibly?

I fitted side skirts to mine, NOT to hide rust as I have done weldage, but to hide my unsightly welding! The MOT was carried out before the skirts were fitted.

They do cover rotten sills well though and will pass an MOT. Mine cost £60 on Ebay and most certainly were not Porsche Body Kit!post-5532-0-64769400-1388513700_thumb.jpg

They changed the offset on 944's at the end of 1986 iirc, quite a few people don't know this and fit the wrong wheels, early wheels on late offset cars etc,. The wheels on the ebay pictured car are the wrong offset for the car or the rear wheels are 6" wide instead of 8" as they do not come close to filling the arches. Either way, it needs new wheels.

The teledials pictured on the late 944 above are completely different to the ones on the ebay advert, and have more dish.

Nice anorak, skattrd! :-D

I remain optimistic that MrsR won't ask what I spent on Sunday.  Think I'm fairly safe, she takes as much interest in my models as I do in her football, ie avoid at all costs.

Happy and safe new year, everyone!
