I'm suffering serious withdrawal brought on by the Cannock Auction thread.  I can't possibly join in jaunts like that, even if we were to find a venue closer to home.  I just don't have anywhere to put extra cars, nor do I have a spare monkey to throw at them.

However... none of that need stop me picking up the occasional model for my shelves!  I know I'm not the only collector here, and I know there are plenty of us in the North West, and... crucially... I know there's a model collectors' fair on after Christmas, at the Reebok Stadium right by the M61!

I'm going, aiming to arrive about 11am.  Anyone else fancy it?  Sunday 29th.

I like the sound of this, Musical Offspring's NYO commitments allowing. Should be doable :-)

Been to that one before, a few times, years ago. Its a good size, it always seems to be that same time of year. No longer local to me, but every time I spend christmas at my parents its on the to do list.

Wish I'd seen this! I'm off to the New Years Eve fair at Doncaster Race Course! ;)

Believe you me, Eddy, none of us are buying either!  We seem to be more along the lines of a slightly eccentric 'shite cabaret' act for the regulars...

Still at double bubble I cant really turn it down.

Target arrival time still 11am.

Autoshite Police Force in my cabinet now!  Horizon/Visa/Lada 2101/Volga/Polonez/Alfa x2/Volvo 850 estate/Peugeot 404 break/Granada x3/Zephyr x3/Viva/mk1 Transit/TurboDaily... only some of which I picked up today, tbh, and then there's all the stuff I haven't unpacked from the shipping boxes yet.  That red Dauphine was a little jewel and I fancied it myself, but someone slipped in while I was wearing down the seller.  Well done Mr Hairnet!  :-D

Today was a lot of fun, gr999 to meet up with more shiters.  Most of the prices were not bargainous, but I kind of expected that, I have been to these things before.  But, by careful scanning, especially in the rummage boxes, you can still pick up some good deals.  One thing I did notice; again to be expected really; a lot of the models I'm seeing in Poundland for, oooh, a pound? were on the stalls at three and four times that.  Older models were very much a lottery, most being way over budget, but there was the odd one that might have been a prospect, had I been looking for such a thing.  I was a bit surprised to see only two Corgi Hillman Hunters.  One was way over budget and much too nice for my project, the other was still too nice so I didn't even ask.  No sense in stripping a good one.

There wasn't a lot in 1/18 scale today. certainly not much American.  What I did see, I thought was over priced, but that could just be me, being mean.  I did well enough in 1/43 though, and I'm not divorced (yet) so I think it's gone off ok.

I had the same impression. I had earmarked a few Sun Star yanks for myself and was surprised that most 1/18 vendors who are usually there were AWOL this time.

What little was there in that scale wasn't just overpriced, it was as if those people live in a parallel universe, i.e. it was overpriced by not a narrow margin over the usual internet prices. For example, the new Norev DS break and Fiat 500 Giardiniera in red, which are around 45, where offered for 65.

There were exceptions though. A MRC '55 Elvis Fleetwood offered for a bargainous 30 and a downright cheap Ertl Hemi Cuda in Plum Crazy for 25 remained unsold.

I have a metric shitload of books, mags and brochures bending the attic floor - how much is a stall at these shindigs?

A table at the Reebok was 35 quid, however, these are toy fairs.

With car related literature you'd be better off at an auto jumble.

Re the Poundland stuff - in fairness to the traders selling them there, they were first available around twelve - eighteen months ago at a trade price of about £1.50 + VAT so if they are selling 'em at £3-4 thats fair enough as I would imagine they didn't get them from poundland. The trouble with a lot of the russian partwork stuff was that the quality was largely appalling - the came in boxes of about 30 and it was reasonable to expect that of the 30, 25 would be in some way faulty - broken bits or mountains of glue were most common.  The ones pondland have were generally the better of the range and didn't have quite as many quality issues.

I had a good wander around though looking at prices and whilst there were a few bargains, some were taking the piss. One guy was selling these Escorts for £30 each would would be an extremely good result if he sold any.

.

In fairness, rrp on the DS Break is £65.99 now, Norev increased prices a couple of months back :(
