I can't understand not having a piece of paper in the windscreen has had any effect really, is the number of curtain twitching busybodies that high? I bet the amount of tax evaders caught by the Police but not by ANPR in the past 20 years must have been miiniscule.

Years ago I bought a Land Rover in Surrey and was driving home on the M25 when I get pulled over by the old bill. They pulled me over because the tax disc wasn't in the correct place, but those were the days when we had traffic coppers actually patroling the road network rather than these pathetic wombles that pretend to be coppers.

Our fuel is already one of the most expensive in the world (the tax being over half the overall cost)

I've looked up the AA fuel price report for November, as I remember UK petrol prices being a mid-table mediocrity and diesel being more expensive in Norway.

 

As it happens, pump petrol is 4th dearest in Europe, after Greece, Netherlands & Italy. For diesel, UK is topping the charts for November.

 

As fuel duty and VAT have been changed for a while, I can only conclude that the reason for the move towards the top of the table is due to exchange rate movements.

 

Fuel isn't everything and in these other euro places quite often you get bummed considerably more for annual tax, registration tax and insurance.

 

I do get pissed off at the pissing and moaning from "hard-done by" UK motorists when in the big scheme of things they have quite easy compared to some places.

Well they're not very effective. The locks on mine only actuate on the intermittent and the plipper doesn't work at all.
