scruff Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 My mate Munkie (who is on here but seldom posts) has a Land Rover called Brenda. It was an ex army ambulance, and did look like this. We went to the Czech Republic in June 2012 via the former east Germany, here it is near Zwickau with my Series 1. Behind the Iron Curtain by sparkright, on Flickr Unfortunately a few weeks later someone drove into it. Once the insurance was finally sorted out Munk began the rebuild. The ambi body was fucked, so he decided to build something different. You will probably have seen Defender double cab pick ups, Munks has created a Series IIA version - the roof actually came via a friend in the film vehicle prep industry and is off one of the 110s used in Skyfall, now mated to the front of a series roof by a clever bloke with a tig welder in order to keep the split screen. Underneath it's now got a Disco 200Tdi engine with a Defender LT77 box, and the transfer box converted to selectable 2/4wd (GR8 4 roundabouts) Today we took it for it's MoT and it went straight through with no advisories. Well done mate! 1966 Land Rover Series IIA double cab! by sparkright, on Flickr fotorabia, The Moog, NorfolkNWeigh and 5 others 8
KruJoe Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Bloody hell, WTF flipped that over? I bet it smarted a bit!
beko1987 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Bet whatever car drove into it hasn't been fixed as well as this! Looks fucking awesome too!
scruff Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Iveco daily doing about 40mph... cuts & bruises thankfully!
vulgalour Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Crumbs, that's a bit of a rescue. Looks pretty good too, I wouldn't know it wasn't a factory job.
John F Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Lovely Landy, glad to see it came back from the (almost) dead. Did he use the LT77's transfer box, or the original Series one?
scruff Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 It's got the LT box as the kit to convert it to 2/4wd is cheap compared to the gubbins to fit to a series transfer. Still a bit of a ball ache to do but it drives nice.
Felly Magic Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Bloody hell, that was some smash. Brenda sounds a tough old bird though. Good to see she lives on scruff 1
morris_ital_lover Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Damn shame the ambi body bought it...but at least the landy survives. IRRC, the ambis were the last to retire in the 1990s, surpassing the series 3s which was quite an effort.
HillmanImp Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Can i just say, i thought splitting the forum was a bad idea but its sodding brill now. Stuff like this is ace. Its a short thread but a GR8 story and had photos which helped my hungover state. 125905/10. myglaren and scruff 2
