Previous keeper history

What is the current address etc with the DVLA for finding out about previous keepers of a my Safrane?

I know you used to have to send a SAE and £5.

Will they have records for its early history in Jersey?

As stated v888 form and a £5 cheque and they will send you everything they have on the car, I did it for my last Astra and got a fairly comprehensive envelope full of photocopies of everything they had, plus sheets telling me which dealer registered the car new, a printout of all previous keeper details, other reg numbers it'd had (private plates) etc

When my cortina estate is finished i'm planning to track down the previous owners in a kind of autoshite timeteam quest, should be interesting there's 16 former keepers on the log book

I done mine a few weeks ago as I said in my Acclaims thread on here, 12 owners meant a thick wad of paperwork back!

Same for me, done at the beginning of the year. Fat-ass A4 envelope back, containing photocopies of all previous V5's, plate transfer forms (DAMN YOU.) and original application for registration etc etc.

Sixteen previous owners. :)

Is that advisable? Half of them have probably snuffed it?

What information did you give on the V888, in sections 4 and 5 where you have to justify needing the information? The notes section on the form says

We have a duty under the Data Protection Act 1998 to protect personal information. However, Regulation 27 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002, provides for the release of information where a person

shows reasonable cause to want it.

... so any pointers on what to say to demonstrate "reasonable cause" whereas in fact it's basically out of interest would be appreciated, as clearly writing something unacceptable in that section would be a waste of time and my hard-earned fiver.

i would say, "i am researching my vehicles history" is a suitable answer

I always put "I've just purchased the car and would like to know it's history", It always works for me.

I have had success with 'building history file for classic car'.

Got a good one with the Sprite - V5 says 9 previous owners, photocopies suggest more than 15 (records start when it was four years old). Also one owner owned it twice. One time for a single day, then again later for twenty years!

True, but maybe constant exposure to welding fumes will convince me i'm some kind of autoshite "highlander" and that i need to vanquish all it's previous owners.........at least that's what i'm gonna tell the cops when i find out which one of those cunts siliconed the door rubbers on and i insert the rough end of a pineapple in him!
