morris_ital_lover Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Wow! that's great work, that engine note is enough to turn evenGreenpeace acticvists green with envy... If your friend isn't aware of thise place/on here already, http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/index.php , might be a useful place to go. Grundig Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 ACEFABRILLENT !! - I like this thread - A Scammell routeman vid, the days when lorries sounded like lorries: tooSavvy and dollywobbler 2
tooSavvy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I love IMPs , me....... ...but what is this, at the bottom of the page..?? tooSavvy
dollywobbler Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Lovely. Just watched the whole of that Routeman video with the stereo cranked up. Our cat hated it.
scruff Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Those cabs are brilliant. I've got the serious horn for the red and green Scammell Trunker (sorry Cavette - didn't see your question) in the first post. Leyland 680 lump and Scammell gate-change box... just the thing for shifting steam shite (slowly). Just the small matter of the lack of a Class 1 licence....
HillmanImp Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 That is sodding great. The fuel bills must be eye watering. I assume he is converting the trailer into living quarters because his wife said he would not be welcome back home if he bought it? Fair enough, he will be beating off the gash in that bad boy. Can you make a UK version of Duel using a Noble from Plymouth as the car (think about it). Suspect the Noble might carry a little more speed though.
tooSavvy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 http://scammellregister.co.uk/history-of-scammell.html ...good read! tooSavvy scruff 1

scruff Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 A quick update. The Scammell has been out to a couple of bonfire nights which it throughly enjoyed. Steve is currently getting on top of all the servicing and working his way through some niggles. Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Nice thread. I bet it is a challenge to drive, but great fun.
scruff Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 This is now FOR SALE After much deliberating I've decided to put my Explorer up for sale. 1954 Scammell Explorer, 10ltr meadows deisel. In full working order, I'd be happy to set off pretty much anywhere in it. The brakes would benefit from some attention for towing but work well enough on its own. It has a Boughton ground anchor fitted to the rear, both winches working well with good cables. The rear body sides have been changed for steel ones which look okay but could do with some proper hinges making up if I'm honest? I've had both sumps off recently, all oil pipes and both filter housings, all properly cleaned and replaced with properly made gaskets, nuts washers etc..... I'm no fan of instant gaskets from a tube!I overhauled the throttle body and air filter, all now fitting and working correctly. At the same time had all the injectors reconditioned, not just removed, wire brushed and refitted.... Fully reconned at Jon Pick diesels in Boston, pressures and spray pattern now as they should be. The bodywork and paint...... Mmmmmm..... Some patches have been put on the cab, some filler, and some green paint on top. I wouldn't say the repairs are bad, but I certainly wouldn't say they are good.... In short , it's the right shape and it mostly keep the weather off!Oh and finally it had a new set of battery's just over a year ago.I would like to see in the region of £6,700 ono for it. It's an honest description as I see it. If anyone's seriously interested let me know....
