Mine also only has a 5-figure mileage and a non functioning Rover radio cassette...

..... could be Rover tape head gasket failure

So, the beat goes on; the 760's range is now approximately 50 miles before the brakes decide to bind. Not entirely sure if it's the ABS unit (ABS warning light is on) or the brakes need bled but it's fucking irritating.

Stories behind the car are also not quite... err... true. The car which had been "in regular use" has actually done about 1500 miles since 2006 with some spectacular fails inbetween if the online MOT history is to be believed. Engine and gearbox seem to be pretty much spot on and it's had money thrown at it, which is odd considering it's as ropey as fuck to look at. It's almost like it wants to be a good car - it's a bloody good drive when it does - but it just can't remember how to be a car.

It's seeing local use (don't really want to go too far with it) and has had some more photos taken. It still looks ropey as fuck. It has also now been introduced to the Council Estate, who decided it would lose some more of it's exhaust and be loud towards the new one.

Are all your brakes binding (or one half of the split circuit)?

Could be that there is not enough free play in the pedal or failed return spring etc. This will mean the atmospheric port on the m/cyl will be closed and when the brakes warm up the fluid will have no-where to expand to and will apply the brakes instead. Slippery slope because the more the brakes bind the more the fluid expands etc etc.

have also seen over full reserviors and blocked cap vents cause this.

Also flexi hoses can delaminate internally and cause a one way blockage scenario.

Hope im not teaching anyones parents parents to suckle on chicken babies !!

It's only ever the nearside front; it's quite happy anywhere between 5 miles and 50 miles but it's only ever that wheel. The pedal has normal travel but when it starts to bind the pedal goes rock hard and stays that way until it cools down. Taken the ABS fuse out and so far no issue but I'll check the hoses out too.

All good things come to an end. It appears I have inadvertently replaced this 760 Turbo with an altogether more miserable Volvo. Quite what I'm thinking I don't know, but collection will occur on Sunday.

If anyone needs any 760 bits before I inevitably find I've nowhere to put this after I plate rape it gimme a shout...

I'll have the front seats if you're going to break it.

Will let you know; discovered some of the car is somewhat ropier than it seemed so breaking is it's likely fate unfortunately. Still undecided if the 2.3 turbo mill is going into the Council Estate or not but the new Volvo won't be benefitting from this one's interior.

Shame as the 760 went very well... The IRS really does make a difference on these old tanks.

If you're planning to strip it though, give me a shout as there's loads that can be used on lesser 700s.

Of course me horse. It will be leaving as stripped as is physically possible, including it's plate cos it'd be bloody stupid to lose it.

I'm going to make them into chairs and put them in my living room (don't tell my wife).

What's the new Volvo then? Have you given into the charms of an 850?

Are the wheels and tyres any good? DIBS.

I had some bother with my 940's front calipers binding, the sliders were mega crusty. A bit of red grease and it's been fine since.

They'd make smashing chairs I reckon...

Afraid not, though I do still fancy an 850 estate. It's a 2.0 automatic 940 Wentworth saloon. It is taxed, tested, towbar'd, LPG'd and irritatingly less expensive than this 760 was. LPG mingebaggery means I can put the Montego off for winter to prevent the spread of tinworm which appears has moved in over the last week or so making it look frilly in places.

If you do break it, and assuming it has the Girling front brakes, I could certainly use a pair of caliper carriers and set of slider pins for mine.
