It's what I do for a day job. In fact it's me driving through the 'carwash' in my avatar.

If anyone fancies it, google 'how to become a train driver' the easiest way to get in is to take the assessment test yourself, pass it, and knock on the door with a pass on your hot little hand.

I posted it in the 'what would you want to drive' thread and I'm happy  to post it again:

I was told I could do it for 200 quid. Alas, daughter #1 decided to go to fuggin college now instead of marrying an oil sheik.

Hence it's Mobylette instead of Deltic for me.

Those fuggin Deltics fuggin rule like fuggin Scammells do, lemme fuggin tellyas. Fuggin British engineering when good was good and AIDS was unheard of.

Back in Preston now where it started off...

I applied to drive trains some years ago, but I imagine my application went in the bin, because although initially successful, there was a round of layoffs about then, and I got a nice letter thanking me, and telling me I would be kept on file. In other words...

Best of it is, I have previous experience. Kind of. I've driven a 37 across the yard at St Rollox, when there were actual works there (and not just a massive Tesco). Fuck me, that was fun. Being very tentative with the power handle, and being told to give it some, to get it rolling. Give it some I did, and to little me, it felt like sitting in an earthquake. 'Awesome' is an over-used word, but it was exactly that. Fucking awesome, in fact.

Oddly enough, I was inside the Royal Mail shed at Warrington last Christmas, when the railside doors were shut, and the 47 hauling down to London, was fired up and pulled out. The effect was similar...
