I hope your not sick of all the newbie members clogging up the board with "hellos"

Anyway if not thought you lot would like some of my cars,

The scans are before the days of digital cameras, many taken on a boots special disposable camera and scanned in recently.

First car was a mk4 1.4L which smoked alot  tapped alot and rusted alot, especially the arches which I touched up every few weeks with a rattle can. I fitted many desirable extras like rear head rests, a quality goodmans cd player and clear front indicators which added -£2.45 to the overall value, I also re arranged the rear badge so it read 4.1L which I thought was MEGA ACE.

Scan130440000_zps896e3a8d.jpg

Then before the days of mega scrap prices I was given a 316 carb 4 speed for free, as the thermostat was stuck closed, no front brake material left and no wipers, It was my first project which I drove back a good twenty miles with the needle in the red on the temp guage, (dont know why I just didn't take the stat out) the previous family friend owner had been driving it for a few weeks like that, fixed it and it was fine. This was the old M10 iron engine, as I know now any alloy bmw engine that goes above the recommended temp by 0.00001 degree will melt down to liquid metal or turn into a banana shaped metal ornament.

Scan130440002_zps0b974629.jpg

Funny story, I sold it to some suspicious youths. A month later a copper knocks on my mums door asking for me, are you the owner of said bm, no sold it a while back, well it was ram raided into a toilet roll lock up last night, think they was going for the electronics unit next door said the copper.

Next was a cavalier 2.0 16v which many times hit 130mph (speedo indicated probably 105mph) as we all know vauxhalls are shit etc etc was ragged to death for a year or so, sold to my mate who never changed the oil 6500rpm from cold but it still managed a good 20000 miles with him, till it was crashed into bus.

Scan130440001_zpsd2841662.jpg

Then I splashed out 225 pounds on this rot free saph which was ace, one memorable incident was me saying to my mate "it just wont go sideways"  it then proceded to go fully sideways accross a junction. I also had another sierra with the same 1.8 cvh which was pink, when i bought it was red, it was also raining when i bought it, took if for a mot, he told me it was dangerous to drive, I sold it with a few weeks mot left.

Welcome! 8)

The E30 looks really smart in the photo. Pity that it met a bad end.

The 4.1L Escrot made me lol, welcome aboard.

Welcome along, thanks for sharing your car history. I always enjoy these as mine is so dull.

That 316 povo spec is attractive in a functional, mega-Germanic kind of way, approved. My dad had a 318i and almost had to give his right arm just to specify a radio when he ordered it!

That Chavalier looks lovely. Have a real soft spot for those, but its getting firmer.

I have pics of 90 percent of the cars I have had, only due to a old mate of my dads saying he wish he had done it so since my first car I have always tried to photograph them, Look son thats a volvo 460 your dad hey, yeah dad great, can I go now.

After the sapphire I needed some speed so bought a mk2 gti, the paint was horrendous, most things didn't work but I loved it.

Scan130440004_zps1a42b080.jpg

Then I decided I needed luxury so I bought a saab 9000 of a south african geezer, it had air con, elec and heated seats etc etc and its also boasted three, yes three headunits a amp a cd player and a radio/cassette it sounded awesome had many speakers and was a very rear optional extra I believe.

Scan130440005_zps709f6446.jpg

I swapped it for a zx 1.9 dizzler as i decided i needed economy, not much to say other than it was pretty darn good.

Scan130440010_zps600e81e5.jpg

I soon got bored of 68bhp and 50 mpg so thought 230 bhp and 15mpg would be better so bought a mk2 supra turbo, i was in my early 20's still and things couldn't get much better, till OMGHGF happened, there was warning signs before it wen,t oil pressure getting lower, temp getting hotter, misfiring, and it all came together in one glorious moment as i dropped my younger brother of at school and thought a nice thrash out the gates would impress the 6th forms girls, they was probably impressed by the amount of smoke coming out the exhaust but thats it. suppose when you spend £995 not a penny less excepted from a asian car dealer you dont expect longitivtiy.

Scan130440006_zps9c2942d6.jpg

I put a ad in the local paper looking for a swap as the supra would still drive if you kept it topped up and used 12% throttle or less. Couple of days later i got a call, you fancy a 190 mate?, i sure did, we met in a car park and drove off our separate ways. I soon learned the 190 took 543 attempts from the ignition key for it to start, the doors didn't lock as the key was different and the full service history he shown me was for a e class 200 kompressor. Well least the head gasket was o.k.

Then me and my mate thought buying a van would be ace, so we paid around 200 quid for a astra van, it shaked sooo much above 65mph, it never went above 65mph anyway so wasn't too much of a problem, the clutch was shagged and it was very crusty but also a complete honey, then on my favourite past time of all time, going to look at cars I told myself that a granada estate would be cool, it most definitely was. So i bought it.

Scan130440008_zps648830af.jpg

Everytime it rained, all the electrics decided they didn't want to work, which was fun. We went to cornwall in it, 3 of us slept in it, we drove back, did some doughnuts in a car park and sold it, it was covered in stickers that had t&j on them and we found about 15 pairs of tights in various places inside.

I was working in sheffield at the time asbestos stripping and working 70 hours a week, the van was stolen from a notorious part of sheffield one night, so I started checking the classifieds and treated myself to a e34 530 off a big manor in derbyshire where it had thousands spent keeping it in good condition, a few months later I took a lady friend for a nice run into derbyshire one weekend, on the way back i was showing off giving it some beans, span, hit a dry stone wall. We was o.k. but the beemer wasn't, it went to the scrappies. Never saw said lady friend again, her dad was not impressed.

Scan130440009_zps49d61d75.jpg

I then bought another mk2 golf this time a 16v, it had full koni suspension, horrible max power circa 1990's wheels which i thought were the bees knees at the time, it was stripped out with just a racing seat and harness fitted, I did loads, fitted bigger brakes, bigger throttle body, loads of bracing, changed my first cambelt, did five or so trackdays and was just a great car to thrash.

100_5124.jpg

I then decided 70 hours a week stripping asbestos was no good, despite the wages, so I joined the army. Sold the golf and bought a scirocco. It was in good condition but it just felt slow compared to my old 8v gti which had the same engine, So i gave it my mum she had it for a couple of years till someone reversed into the side and it was written off.

Hello and welcome! A friend of mine had a Cav exactly the same, got treated the same, and then got wrote off. Never really found out what happened. Just had a new head gasket as well. He was gutted but wouldn't admit it...

The gold Granny is GR12 - never seen a mark 3 estate painted that colour before :)

Then due to having a steady job I knew i was not going to get fired from I went to the bank and got a loan, always been a fan of alpina bmw's and the only one I could really afford was a e36 b2.5 which was converted by sytners at a price of 7 grand when new, by far the best car I have ever owned.

Image010.jpg

I owned it for a while till a mate who had a 300zx twin turbo said "fancy a swap" i stupidly agreed. It was fast, did 200 miles to a tank if you was lucky but i never bonded with it at all so it went.

Image024.jpg

I then got posted miles away from home, so bought a passat tdi which i proceded to own for a good five or so years where it went from 94 thousand to 198 thousand with only consumables and a cambelt, i changed the oil every 6 thousand so in the end i could do a full service quicker than a kwik fit fitter, at 198 thousand it used very very little oil between services never smoked and was a dream to own, while i went to iraq i lent it my dad who fell in love with it, it went paris, munich and berlin, often doing 55+mpg.

IMG_0241.jpg

After I came back from iraq i told my dad he could use the passat and i would buy something else, so a alfa 145 cloverleaf was purchased.

07092007203.jpg

It was a good car but i just got bored.

DSC00121.jpg

so bought a another mk2 this time it had a 2.0 16v abf from a mk3 gti was on twin webbers and flew along, i was then posted to germany. used the passat for a bit to travel home quite often, sold the golf and bought something else which i could travel to germany and back in, a clio 1.8 16v. Great thinking hey?

The clio was the most reliable car i ever owned, only needed a radiator, ignition barrell, fuel pump, plastic engine cover after it fell off and got stuck to the exhaust manifold and gassed me out with french toxic plastic fumes, both front wheel bearings, a water pump, a alternator and a clutch so i bought it for 1600, probably spent 1000 or so on it doing the jobs i could myself, sold it for 1400. But i was a trooper for driving it to the fatherland and back more than a few times. It was also mint these are always rotten on the rear arches, this wasn't, it was also nearly completely standard.

DSC00941.jpg

While i was in the french hatchback mood, I sold the clio and bought a 205, not giving into the stereotypical french electrics being crap routine, many electrical things sometimes worked, sometimes didn't.

23092007332.jpg

Stepping back in time i forgot about this 525, bought locally cheap, it decided the gasket between the head and the block no longer wanted to be a gasket so much steam came out in the centre of nottingham and i was towed home.

Blimey. Ace car history, keep it coming. (oh, hello as well)  8)

Hi. look slike you've ticked some of the correct boxes mate. Lovely little 205.

Posted

The photos often flatter my cars alot, they were not so pretty in real life, the 205 was every shade of red going till it was polished.

I forgot about a beauty a 460 gle injection catalyser with the lambda badge on the front grill, it had the renault 1.7 engine in it which liked to scare you by getting just before the red then the fans would come in and you could relax. Like everytime in traffic oh oh its gonna blow, oh no she's o.k. used to have a squeak from the rear that sounded like a seal was in the boot. I got stopped once in Nottingham town centre on a sunday night driving home, sunday night was when the boy racers used to come out, and they said they was stopping cars to tell them not to race, Come on mate have a look at it.

Scan130440012_zps7c5f2ad6.jpg

I moved up in the volvo rankings and bought a s40, which I changed every bush and ball joint and top mount etc etc going but it continued to haunt me knocking over the slightest little bump in the road sold to a trader on ebay for 900 odd quid who then had it for sale for ages.

DSC00094_zps936200e3.jpg

Then I went to back using the passat as I left the army and settled down as I was working close to home, sold it to someone on ebay who I still message every now and then to see how its going, he loves it.

So one day sat at a island and a mx5 came round at like a million mph and i was impressed, get home checked the blue forums classifieds and the very same mazda was for sale, rang him up went to see it, put a deposit down. was a bit of a silly car, not really autoshite, was so low it needed two jacks to raise it after driving onto a thin bit of wood one to raise it a little bit then get the trolley jack underneath, speedhumps a complete no no, but it had been in a mag, also came from japan and had been in a cult mx5 club over there, was a good laugh I used it all year come wind, snow rain, sold to a lad who kept pestering me to buy it who lived local, I see him driving it every now and then, he's loads cooler than me.

IMG_0010.jpg

IMG_0424-1.jpg

Then i fancied some luxury so bought a e39 528 which was a great all rounder was pretty quick a great cruiser, smooth, comfy, handled well, and was just generally good, but I only managed a overall 25mpg not like people on the internets who claim they do 40mpg, maybe if you do 56mph on a cruise from falkirk to falmouth, but thats not for me.

IMG_0012.jpg

Then my missus told me about a friends mum who had a fiesta 1.25 for sale, went to have a look and it had been serviced every year, had just had the cambelt done and 4 good tyres just put on and did i want it, yes I did.

IMG_0019-1.jpg

But as you do, i got bored so bought a 190 merc, I bought some rimz and lowered it, had it for a summer and sold it.

I then really wanted another mx5 so I bought a rough one which had a few goodies inc a lsd and bilsteins, I set about slowly turning it into a back road thrasher fitting a elise seat, a half roll cage and generally tidied it up witha new hoos bits of trims a door etc, it was cracking on winding roads but in the end started to have a sticking tappet hot or cold that came and went and no amount of wynns, flushes, oil changes and thrashes cured it, and the clutch started to slip,so like normal I lost loads and sold it.

IMG_0253.jpg

My dad had acquired a garage as he is a pirate and lives on a narrow boat and they dont come with drives or garages, so we decided to go halves on something as we never had enough to buy something nice on our own, travelled miles to see a mgb i was not to keen on them to be honest as I thought it was just the standard buying option for a classic car, but once i sat in it and drove it i loved it.

IMG_0018.jpg

the paint was shot in places so we saved up and had a few professional jobs done and it looked nice in the end, I took it loch ness with my partner where the distributor gave in. Sold earlier this year.

And this is where I am at today, one 1994 306 NON turbo, fitted with the lucas pump which everyone in the world hates, It was cheap as the pump was leaking i took it off was going to buy a second hand one when a local diesel specialists said he had a refurbed one in stock, paid up 150 quid which was alot as basically everyone chucks them away, but hey ho it didn't leak, it cant run veg but its averaging 50 odd to the gallon so i am happy. it has a funny folder that says "polly the peugeot" on it, only had two owners and is in good condition apart from the rear hatch which has been cleaned with a brillo. I love driving it along and staying below 3000rpm as above that it just makes alot of noise and not much else.

IMG_0081-1_zpsb9cb2314.jpg

There a few cars I dont have pics for including a xj40 which me and my mate had but the rear calliper stuck on boiled the fluid and he ran into the back of someone, also a fiat tipo 1.4 with the digital dash didnt have it long enough to take a photo, probably more but its hard to remember. I am 29 now so many more years of sheds to come.
