Cyprus spots

Hello all, just returned from a very nice holiday in Cyprus, it's been 8 years since the last visit and although there didn't seem to be quite so much old chod about as back then I did find some quite good stuff without trying to hard.

First up, the classic 'Cyprus bus' this one based on a Bedford TJ....

This Zodiac and Zephyr MK2 were found by a backstreet garage in Paphos, the Zodiac was missing plenty of trim but had a very solid rot free shell, Zephyr was very tatty....

This nice little Minx was in a backstreet near where we were staying, it hasn't moved in a long while judging by the spider web filled interior....

This Merc 'Ponton' 6 cylinder was at another Paphos backstreet garage, the friendly garage owner showed me the cylinder head which has badly corroded and was scrap, a replacement was on the way from America apparently....

Just behind the Merc was a haulage company yard with some good stuff, a retired 'LAD' cabbed Leyland, another still in use alongside an AEC, and a very old ex military Ford....

The Avenger must be quite late in that champagne colour - or a Cypriot blow over? GR9 spots though.

Cracking spots, enjoyed those a lot. There's some good stuff in the background too - I spy a series 1 Fiat Uno, 5dr mk1 Golf and a poverty spec 305 in the yard behind the rental shop, and behind the Zephyr are a Dodge/Renault truck and is that a doorless Hyundai Pony series 1 pickup?

Nice spots. I also noticed that Cyprus is teeming with well preserved memories of people's past miserable existences. I was quite surprised at the number of trucks and coaches I saw that were just left in fields, like nobody cares.

Great spots! I saw the Zodiac sitting in the garage in Paphos when there last year. To add a TURBO onto your spotting power in Cyprus cross the Turkish border into Famagusta ( the bit you're allowed in obviously!) The Turkish Cypriots are in the Champions League of chod drivers.

Nice to see some of those cars again

Cortinadave, you could have said hello last year, I only left in September!

The rental shop belongs to my friend Andreas, as do most of the cars around it. The late Avenger is one of his treasures, he likes Avengers a lot. Interesting to see the Wolseley and Zodiac have moved again; this is their third home in the time I've known them. They are both for sale (I've been offered them) at collectors-market prices, as are the Jags. None will ever be sold, even I won't pay those prices. I'm told the green Zodiac is not for sale, but it's deteriorated somewhat in the four years since I first noticed it. I never got close enough to the grey Zephyr to shoot it so I'm glad to see it in more detail.

The owner of the green Merc is a friend of a friend. I've seen that car at a Paphos Classic Vehicle Club event, then it disappeared. A couple of years later the owner was looking at buying my pickup and I saw the Merc, where it now rests. I've got a pic somewhere. Oh, and he didn't buy my truck. I eventually sold it to someone else, for a fair bit less. :(

Gr8 spotting!
