Popped along in Rupert the Stag with my 14 year old son, objective for him was to find out what is cool and what makes you look a tool.

Last year’s show was cancelled at the last minute due to the showground resembling a lake, this year couldn’t have been more different. It was packed, bursting at the seams, more cars than I could possibly look at in the limited time we had and the sun was shining. Forgot the damn slip slop slap and the boy burns so only had a couple of hours which was a shame.

Onto the pics;

P5198031_zpseaf5ac0c.jpg

This was fapping immaculate, shame it didn’t have original dealer plates and sticker, very tidy. Took me right back to 1980s.

Matt’s verdict = Meh

P5198034_zps0601ff20.jpg

Then we saw these two, attracting dishevelled old men, the agro was tidy.

Matt’s verdict = they don’t look like they go fast

P5198036_zps065ca748.jpg

Then this honey, “ever seen one of these Matt?†trying to instil some interest.

Matt’s verdict = better that the agro

P5198038_zps311a3b34.jpg

I rather liked this, I bet it is a right hoot on the roads

Matt’s verdict = what the heck is that

P5198041_zpsac4635e2.jpg

A very tidy 1964 P6 2000, not many of the series one cars about and only the 2nd 64 plate car I have ever seen

Matt’s verdict = how fast is it?

P5198043_zpsc489fd92.jpg

Funny how Minis seem smaller these days, well I spose the new countryman is about the same size as my Range Rover so it stands to reason.

Matt’s verdict (funnily enough no interest in the mini but) = Ovlov is pretty cool

P5198046_zpscf45b0bc.jpg

FC 101 porn, I didn’t bother to ask Matts opinion, he was looking quite embarrassed that I was taking photos.

P5198050_zps7029e953.jpg

lovely, managed to lose Matt for a while

P5198053_zps984f72cb.jpg

Triumph v8 in a Herald! Apparently brutally quick in a straight line but doesn’t care much for corners. Nearside exhaust manifold was made from a scaffold tube. The car had an 8track with Hotel California cassette :D

P5198054_zpsc6a28caa.jpg

P5198056_zps2b87d21c.jpg

I liked this, Matt doesn’t like Lotus’! But did like the newish Evora at the front end of the car park. Then he did like Lotus’. “How fast is it dad?†depends on how the electrics are feeling I guess.

P5198057_zps3e2c441b.jpg

80's tacular phone in the centre console. This was a very tidy XJ-S. Matt thought it looked slow!

P5198059_zps44f80de9.jpg

Does my arse look big in this? One on the right was an SP IIRC

Matt’s Verdict = sick - which i think means he like it

P5198060_zpsb6eb9789.jpg

There were a couple of these, this was the nicest.

Matt’s verdict = yep I want one of those

P5198062_zpsc7d3ad3f.jpg

FD2000 porn, check out those wing mirrors

P5198067_zpsab48f0ed.jpg

Tidy barge with Rupert the Stag in the background not getting all jealous and huffy.

Matt’s verdict = don’t pick me up from school in that.

P5198068_zps1c5423f6.jpg

Matt’s Verdict = cool or sick or whatever means acceptable these days, I lose track

P5198070_zpsc1a82698.jpg

3.1 8) My chum had a 3 litre S Capri and had it better than new.

Matt’s verdict = car of the show – seems the boy likes the idea of going sideways round roundabouts and backwards into hedges.

I managed to lose him at this point, he went to play on his phone and look surly while sitting in my car.

P5198074_zps3a8f94ad.jpg

TR5pi prices have suddenly gone stratospheric, I find this strange for a stop gap car donchfink?

P5198079_zps7f318ca4.jpg

Mazza Indy porn

P5198080_zpsc02df36c.jpg

fvcking hell, high gloss on that. Looked very wob free as well. Matt was in my car nearby, I gave him a shout and a thumbs up and was rewarded by him slowly shaking his head. Oh well I do try.

P5198081_zpsf211e945.jpg

Quick snap as this was just leaving. Clouds of authentic oily exhaust.

P5198082_zpscb03810f.jpg

Inappropriate rimz on an otherwise tidy grandada. Spot the Dorchester behind that has thus far escaped one last journey round the oval.

P5198084_zps70e59361.jpg

Ant-eater special! I loved this.

P5198086_zps06d35887.jpg

P5198087_zps5252cb91.jpg

“Hello darling! Oh no, sorry sir I was talking to the car"

P5198088_zps5ccd5e44.jpg

This was fully restored and very tidy pre-HE v12 with low miles and up for six bags. 2 or 3 sherberts and i’d have been all over that like a cheap Burtons Suit. Mrs thastag says no more cars though, and it probably wouldn’t fit in the garage. Going to do it one day, though the salmon XJ6 might beat the white XJ-S to it, unless it was a very early XJ-S then it would be thwack, thwack, thwackidy-wack

P5198092_zpscbc3fdb3.jpg

I have never seen a Rover this colour let alone a 3 litre P5. Seems to suit it though

P5198094_zpsea8fc3c5.jpg

Noice coupe with 8 under the hood and column change baderbox

P5198096_zpse382a70c.jpg

P5198099_zps57af850a.jpg

P5198100_zps843e7a3d.jpg

Very nice, reckon it would look better on steel wheels though, maybe even lotus Cortina rims

P5198102_zps5b752735.jpg

There were a few of these at the show, Matt was speechless each time, but I don’t think that was a bad thing

P5198103_zpsbdd71bc2.jpg

“Is it fast†asks Matt.

P5198105_zpsb1a94c38.jpg

Stupid wheels again, what is it with ford boys? I mean either that suspension is rockard or he gets through arches and tyres like I get through brown beer on a May bank holiday. Otherwise quite nice.

P5198108_zpsb431fddb.jpg

P5198109_zps4d2cdbb5.jpg

Incredible, good job Matt had buggered off again because I was nursing some tentage. I even considered moving in for some frottage, filthy tart! Just look at that dash. I would like crash everytime I drove it because I wouldn’t be looking at the road.

P5198109B_zps61f542ac.jpg

P5198110_zpsbd705fd4.jpg

Matt didn’t seem to think that his mum, mrs thestag, would notice this if it rocked up outside chez-stag. He did quite like it though.

P5198114_zpsf1a069e4.jpg

Misery hols 1973. 2.5 dizzler to keep you amused and deaf

P5198116_zps6da9ffba.jpg

Morris MO ½ tonne commercial, never seen one of these before. Lovely thing it was too.

P5198118_zps2a3db9f5.jpg

Froggy style plates lol

P5198119_zpsceaae46a.jpg

The Cossie next door had a fart cannon so huge that this Rover owner might have mistaken it for the Hindhead Tunnel

P5198120_zps81e81678.jpg

Cute little Rochdale, about the same size as a frogeye and about the same chance of me being able to fit in it - though more because of a fucked up back than enormous girth.

Ha! I have some in the wild motorway spottage of the city X! Beginning of April, before POL but heading somewhere else from memory, not sure about the chrome and spoiler though.

Posted

Great selection of stuff to see, that Saab is particularly good looking, I didn't think that shape would suit the bumperless look so well. Morris MO is a big special, they're rare enough in car form.

Posted

Gr9 pics ,looks like a good turnout. Nice to hear some of the yoofs opinion on the motors as well.

GR8.8 WRK.

Look at that Ambassador. You would kind of know your car company was fucked when those started rolling off the line.

Posted

Fuck me that's what it was! We drove past there on Sunday looking for a (shit) car boot! Wish we'd gone back now!

Great selection of cars. The FD 2000 was nice but odd - the FE appeared with K reg so either something is rong somewhere or it was kicking about a while before it got registered with an L plate. Father V6 picked up a new L reg FE VX4/90 and I still remember the day. According to the DVLA the car survived until 1991.

That FD is SUPA HOT.

If your son would rather be seen in a bloody Triumph Stag than that Viceroy you seriously need to have a word.

Too right about the FD, that and the tbird i would happily have dragged my sack over the pair of them. But kept just enough back for the s2 daimler.

Tbh matt is about as fussed about the stag as he was about the viceroy, he generally prefers the range rover.

I keep thinking about selling the stag, especially having owned it for nigh on 20 years. Then i make the mistake of taking it out for a spin and fall for it again. It will need to make way for an s2 xj or an early xj-s soon.. Maybe
