No Messers or time wasters or scam artists please, I'm looking for a simple and stress free transaction to let this car live on and achieve it's full potential, and for someone to have a great car.

Fault: Head Gasket Failure

History:
For a few years this has been my second daily driver since I got it and my summer car while I get the really old cars fixed up, I got it from a colleague who had looked after it since the 90's! I knew it was a good car and hung onto it even though strictly speaking I didn't need it. It was nice to have power and torque on tap again too with this engine delivering 136PS and enough torque to cruise or blast up the steepest hills.

I had planned to sell later this summer after my other daily driver is fixed, and hang onto it as long as poss and improve it as I go. In my ownership I have experienced some power hesitation when going to overtake on motorways and I'd been replacing parts and servicing along the way to help remedy this problem, fuel filter, plugs twice, HT leads, oil, and I even custom rebuilt the exhaust using, a NOS Janspeed back box, and quality Jetex universal parts to link up to that. from the new standard middle exhaust. It ran really good, loads of power, it was just the motorway journey issue, this problem may have been the HG giving in..?.. I invested in having the cam belt and water pump done last year to confidently enjoy show season and UK holidays. Since my other car went off road in October I've been using this car daily as my full time car and covered over 7000 miles or so commuting daily and all weekend journeys.

It's recently passed MOT in February, the mechanic fitted 2 new lower arms, which was wearing tyres, so only 3 weeks ago I invested in 2 Brand new mid range Maxxis tyres up front and professional full laser tracking done.
It had a brief wash last Saturday in anticipation of attending a show in Northwich and blew it's head gasket on the way there, and towed back, so is now a non runner.
There's a folder of History/receipts old and new with the car

Spec and details,
It's a good trim level, my favorites are Recaro style (may actually be Recaro knowing Ford) sports seats with wings, very firm and comfy and supportive and a nice colour/design, limited wear no saggy bolsters, only the drivers has a hole caused by a belt keyring.
tilt and open Sunroof, electric front windows, ABS that works perfectly! power steering, Drivers Airbag (fine), Alloy Wheels, Wide (2xNEW!) tyres, sports 'lowered' suspension, and all other mod cons, the interior light and ciggie lighter seem to have blown a fuse mind.
It feels like a quality solid car, and has rewarding sporty handling, great to drive.

Collection:
You WILL need a trailer or truck to tow this away, everything worked fine till the HG fail one week ago, it will not start now.

Conclusion:
LONG MOT! plus A stylish and capable rare car and future classic future retro Fast Ford, that way way way too good to scrap (though that IS my back up plan). I know there are Ford Nuts and retro fans out there who know how good these cars are. It's a bargain project/car for someone, even to buy and get fixed by a mechanic its still a good deal, or drop in a decent 2.0 Zetec from another car, its a good reshell car in that regard, or even build a cheap track car, that'd be cool, or you could make money stripping all the bits and weighing it in! :S Up to you.

I'm looking for a honest QUICK and stress free deal, collection this weekend would be ideal...
Sold as seen.

These are GREAT. The Si zetec was tweaked in some way as my K reg was MUCH perkier than the other 2.0 Mondeo's I've had. Bloody lovely driving/handling cars given the age of them, and nice interior too.

Wow, I remember admiring this at last years Chodbinfest, and since then I have become a major league Mondeo licker. WOULD LIKE.

Getting rare now too, which means the value will rise slowly but surely. I've seen this car and know how much it means to you so I reckon someone will get a decent motor there.

I'm not for a minute suggesting anything underhand but as the car is taxed it would actually be essentially free to get it recovered if you bought it.

Thanks Cortina Dave :) these are all the reasons I was struggling to let go. Really enjoyed it. lot of car for the money really. Two dailies when sharing a car is OTT, so it had to go...

Mr B thank you, I was like 10 miles away from getting to Northwich/Chumly do this year! gah!

If you are interested in a deal LMK. :)

Cheers Cavette.

This chap has a point, and my car could be the star of an award winning thread, plus it proves its autoshite gold since RetroRides have promptly moved my advert to the hidden shit boring modern crappy unscene cars category! Gah it's a special model and 18 year old mk1 honestly! It only has one air bag, that's retro these days! And I followed their flow chart, so here ya go!

So yeah anyone want this, shout loud and if yer a good guy we can sort summat out like. 8)

Oh and in other news I'm trooping on with my shite cortina hence my busyness with full on shite. (Why!) yeah I cut a new section out of it again, July loose deadline is looking tricky...

Posted

I've been trying to gently persuade junior that maybe he could fix the headgasket if I bought this car. Things weren't going especially well anyhow in that department and I've just had him out against his will fixing the central locking and electric windows on the estate. Oh well, I have tried.

Posted

I have major WANT for this but unhelpfully the list of reasons not to is alas quite long and convincing, someone here must save this! Good luck, it needs a caring home, can't be many left in this sort of original condition.

Posted

Cavette, I did think of you and junior, be good summat like this to have a good go at own car. Potentially a profit fixed too specially with the long MOT and tax till end July. You can be Mike he can be Edd.

I'd do it if it was my only car to fix. Be a good way to learn.

Phil I'm glad you chaps agree its too good to scrap. This modern world it's too easy to chuck everything away.

Still available, getting scary close to chopping block now!

eBay had a chap offering £350 and instant check over and pick up and then fell off the planet!

Then another bid and unbid on the auction, so I'm now £10 poorer, and no sale. It's on car and classic website now for £320 Ono, but if any you lot are keen, especially to save this old dawg. I'm asking £270 Ovno all in, or £175 Ovno with no wheels or tyres.

Anyone tempted?

Posted

just to be clear;

the headgasket has gone and now it wont start?

are you 100% its the HG?

and only the HG?

Posted

Hiya yeah that's a bloody good question. We lost power on the motorway and then there were like metallic sounding clicks, which sounded like they were coming from the pedal cable. Then there was some steam seeping from drivers side of engine bay, expansion bottle. Switched engine off there was steam coming out of exhaust pipe for several minutes, scary cos at that stage I'd not ruled out smoke and fire. After thinking I declared that it should be the HG. AA truck guy turned up and confidently said HG too. Often not mechanics these guys but he was a car and Ford nut with a host of very exciting retro Fast Fords under his belt. Engine doesn't start just a swoosh turn over. Might recheck it later this aft and report back, not messed with it in over a week.

And yes upto this point everything else seemed fine. If anything a new gear box mount bush to stiffen up things but overall, as good as it looks, hence my investment at MOT time and tyre time! Gah!:lol::cry:

Mr Bol or anyone who might be seriously interested. Will take some fair offers for pick up soon. Like tomorrow or mid next week.

Need it moved off road as an alternative if someone offers to help me move it 6 mile. :-)

Posted

Hey Re-an, i'd love to take this on but i've simply got too much SHIZ on the go at the moment to be getting involved in it! It looks flipping great however, I would love to have a blast in it, I bet its well nice to drive.

On the transport front, I could probably A-frame it a few miles for you behind the Doblo if thats some help. However I couldn't do it till next weekend as I am away with work all week. LMK if thats any use.

Posted

Thanks Mr B I really have not got the heart to scrap it just yet, though I did try call http://www.remocogreatermanchester.co.uk/ on Saturday in between bodging the cortina valance . They were closed. Thought they might be able to use it.

If my local banger racing hero and friend can't help move it mid or late week I will call you for help, thanks for the offer. It's going to the outlaws house though so ill be outnumbered if I try fix it, ( yes a little part of me is tempted to horn another lump in but too many fords i should have fixed yesterday already and the xantia will be only one step away from a new disaster...) gah. but at least it'll be safe and out of my hair for a while. Was Starting to get stressful. :)

Sadly still available and unsold. Time is really against me now, offers considered. Breaking/scrapping looks like it's future.

Posted

It's such a shame, you know if it were local to me or could be driven I'd be sorely tempted to find a way to give it a home, sadly the transport costs for a 200 mile tow would make it far too expensive. I really hope someone can save this!

Posted

Good luck with the sale. :)

These Si's seem to be the nicest looking mark 1 Mondeos, lovely looking alloys. And that interior looks fantastic! 8)

Posted

Thank you very much, I'm learning that they have a real following with the banger racing lads, oh dear, apparently they are as tough as they feel. Could be an interesting week...

Phil, your only costs are the price of travel to Mark, ideally by train.

This is potentially true, it's not insured any more but not weighed the tax in just yet... :-)

Auction ends tonight, and apart from one lad, all the other interest, appears to be from banger racers, though I could be wrong, lets hope they are garage owners... If the Ford Freaks were going to see it it would be on eBay....

Posted

Didn't see your post at the time Cav, I think that must have been during the great forum move of '13, not sure I understand the math!  Still, I really do not have a square inch spare for it (it was hard enough finding room for a teeny little motorbike!) but it looks to be doing pretty well on ebay, fingers crossed you get a sensible auction winner!
