Hi All

After missing my v8 Range Rover Classic I've taken the plunge & bought a 3rd gen Camaro RS, 5.0 V8 in a tasty red. All seems good & the noise she makes is fantastic, Thunder is a understatement!

Some pics:

Its got some new z28 alloys on it, so I have a couple of spare z28 alloys For Sale if anyone has any use for them.

I'm not sure whether its a 305 or 350 motor, or whether its Injection or Carb, although it has a big Edelbrock Chrome Air Filter & Dizzy - Any Help Guys? - Will get a pic of engine up soon! Its a 91 model.

Cheers

Didn't these have a strange speedo set up? Other than the 85mph limit.

Is this the car that has service intervals of 100,000 miles?

Not that I can see, Just has a standard speedo.

85 is fine for me...

Not sure about service intervals either, its 22 years old!

FIT!!11! Do you have any interior photos to perv over?

A "held open continental strength" pic of the bonnet up displaying its lovely engine would be a real bonus!

rawy ? that is NOT Autoshite !!! but well done, nice looking beasty.

I am stopping myself from buying a 4th edition Camaro (1998) with the flush oval headlights, not recessed...

but it's only a 3.8 V6, so's i can afford to go further than 100 miles in it - should do 30's on a run.....

Your V5 should show you the engine capacity, as said, some markets (CA) used a smaller V8 version, look at wikipedium

for some info...

and look under the airfilter for a Rochester quadrajet, or Holley 4-barrel carb... my guess is it's injected, maybe "throttle-body-injection".

there is a saying, "Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown' - so fit a supercharger and go flying !!

all this stuff is a cheap as chips back in blighty, cos gas is $11 a galleon there..... :( so enjoy it whilst you can, I say !

Hi All

Will get some under bonnet & interior shots asap, but the interior is red, red & red, but with a nice wooden Momo wheel.

Its definately a 5.0, so 305 it is then.

I looked at a 4th Gen in Wigan, but it really doesn't have the stance of these older ones.

Cheers

Didn't these have Crossfire Injection?

Everyone will tell you that the 305 is crap.........ignore them, they can be made [relatively cheaply] to outperform a 350. Only problem with these are the interiors seem to be made out of Lego, especially the seats, which I find are really uncomfortable.

Its quick enough for me, so no plans for mods.

So far the seat is holding up quite well, nice & padded in the middle but a bit freyed round the edges.

The 305 is crap. It is hard to imagine how much superior the 350 is if you never drove a car with a 350 and then the same car in the 305 version.

Having said that, the 305 is plenty sufficient for motoring in Britain, where most drivers struggle to keep up with a fuggin tanker lorry or minicab.

I had a 1987 IROC Z, the only car ever I bought new. They are about as susceptible to damage as an anvil.

However, this 1985 305 example sporting a chrome air filter is a clear indication it has been tinkered with. The way this is done in Europe usually leads to more noise, less power, more fuel consumption and worse reliability compared with the original setup. I would therefore ask whether the standard items are still with the car.

It came standard with a 4bbl Rochester Quadrajet. The TPI was reserved for the IROC Z.

Here is some comprehensive info on how to decode the VIN and other tags and labels of your '85:

Firstly, nice buy.

Secondly, a 305 is perfectly usable everyday cruiser, which is all anything other than the IROC is.

Thirdly, how cool is the name 'Rochester Quadrajet'? Those crazy yanks....

My '78 Camaro LT had a 305 in it, it went well and sounded good but the 2 barrel carb looked like it belonged on a Chevette I had to get an adaptor so I could fit a big chrome filter........

A couple of years later I bought a '74 with a 6 pot in it, never again, it sounded shit, went as fast as a very slow thing and drank just as much!

Didn't these have Crossfire Injection?

- late model C3 corvettes had the "Crossfire" engine.... and Chrysler has since stolen the name.

I blame Paykanhunter....

"Stand back, son, the engine's about to CROSSFIRE ! "

(and that's my 7 litre (427th) post).....

That's almost the spit of my old one! Except mine was slightly older and the TPI Iroc-Z :D

They produce an absolutely feeble amount of power for such a big engine, I think mine was 190 hp or something equally weak, it sounded lovely though and summer with the T tops out was ace! :D

Yank V8s, no power [usually] but buckets of torque, however much they've been strangled by all the "save the kittens" crap.
