barefoot motoring costs - 2014

I've splashed out on the winter hack in the last year.

I paid £60 for a new inner cv boot to be fitted.. Plus I gave her an oil and filter change £16 ( I most probably do it too frequently as I don't do the mileage in the car).

I also bought a new set of clocks(£10) as mine were playing up but nothing bad so I won't be using them till my mileage gets up-to 86000 which it most probably won't get up too till about another 20 years time.

I also put in some fresh power steering fluid in the the old girl but I used a turkey baster to drain the old stuff out.

So all in I've spent less than £100 including the mot this year..

My cabriolet I spent quite a few quid on as I had 4 new tyres fitted which cost in the region of £125 and a refurb on one wheel which was £70 and also I had a new cat fitted which cost about £120 plus while fitting I had the garage do an oil/filter change which was in the region of £55 and I had to take the dash out and fit a new temp gauge £10 and a new multi sensor which was £40.

I also fitted a new rear bumper which was £48 (already the same colour) plus a new ginger front indicator for £10 and I had the drivers seat repaired which was £150 and a new Sony iPod head unit which was £35 and a new electric aerial for the retro look for £25.

Also a I fitted a new set of Bosch plugs for a £5 plus a new air filter which I was £6.

I think it may need a new battery soon but someone just gave me a 3 month old halfords battery for it which will save a few bob.

I've just realised I've spent the same on the car minus £1 in a year on the old girl as what I bought her for..

I guess though there can't be that many 21 year old cabriolets about with that mileage and the car looks like a nearly new car again now.

OK, you may remember that the van cost £0.462 per mile to run.

Here's the totals for the others;

including mot, insurance and tax

and then fuel

Porsche £1816 +

              £2036

              £3852 divided by

               9069 miles

              £0.424

Scirocco £ 897 +

               Ã‚£ 929

               Ã‚£1826 divided by

               6277 miles

               Ã‚£0.290

So, van cheap to run.

Porsche even cheaper

Scirocco bargain of the week?

Comments welcome, would I be better off buying a new Dacia?

...and we're off again.

Porsche - tax disc - £225

and spent my first money on fuel today since 18th Dec.

I spent the best part of £7,000 last year.

This year I will drive much less.

Can anyone explain how to edit the thread title please?

About to spunk another seven hundred on the 190E....New prop joint, autoshift bushes, brake fluid change, new dizzy, MOT full service etc.   It normally only needs a £30 oil change midyear which I do.   Sounds a lot of money, £700, but it gets done properly at a local Merc specialist, Mrs Rocker gets a courtesy car which doubly serves to remind me how shit modern ones are and it saves me getting cold and wet while she taps her feet waiting for her car back...Domestic harmony preserved, another old car lives a full life and I haz an unblemished shite record....

To change the title you need to edit the firstpost and change title then I think

That's a very shoddy attitude.

I've had these soles years, they don't leak and will probably see me out.

Spent a fair bit on me old Benz late last year, OMGHGF, so while it was stripped chuicked a new water pump and oil cooler on, the the bloody drivers door window regulator started jumping just after, motor gear straight onto the regulator so both buggered.

Thats lots about £1200 total.

Then into me handy little bodyshop, he sorted out me jacking points which were getting a bit sad, and did the usual body touching up that it needs every couple fo years to keep it good, nearly £600.

I sorted out the brakes with new pads and discs and full bleed through.

No, forgot, had me winter wheels painted too, and he's got me summer set in now for the same...is there no end.

And to answer me own question, no it aint all over yet, sunroof's got really sluggish so needs sorting, electic aerials partially seized so disconnected and just to put the icing on the cake, the rear windows delaminating again, they all do that sir, and they're about £400 a pop...aarrrgh.

MOT next month, its bound to have eaten another front bottom ball joint, welded into the wishbone so about £150 for a pattern part.

Daren't add up what its cost to keep in tip top over the years.

Got a week off this week, so decided to ring round about that deliminating HRW on the old Benz, sheesh they've gone up, bloody laminated rear screens, anyway the quotes varied from £565 to £870 odd, fook me.

Rang the geezer who fitted the last one about 6 years ago, eventually found his number, he's going to do it for the same price as last time £400 so booked for Friday, he even remembered doing the last one or maybe he remembered my mrs whos as barmy as box of frogs, i wasn't here last time.

Its not the delaminating on these so much as the heating element is really fine with probably 100 lines across the glass, as they deliminate the element breaks up and i'm now down to about 1/4 of the element still working.

Interestingly though, one of the screen people did say (and we nearly bought a bugger a few years ago) that the rear screen for the similar vintage CL 500 cost him £2200 to buy in...'kinell.

Bloody bank accounts having a hammering this week, SWMBO is having the kitchen revamped too.

I have already flicked my bit of half-used Basildon Bond in the bin.....New screen rubber, insert and fitting on Minor which has MoT tomorrow.  Tax is due on Merc and camper by 28th Feb.   Camper van insurance due in three weeks as are the three Morrises and also the camper van needs an oil change.   On the non-motoring front there is also above-mentioned  kitchen revamp stuff happening chez Rocker which is only about three quid cheaper than a new bastard.  On top of this my new shed comes next week which I brazenly ordered after Christmas before I spent my bonus on other shit.    Its only February for chissakes.....
