There's a whole lot of bullshit about this kind of business so I go for the suck it and see approach. Introduce it gently and maybe settle for 50/50 if you want to be safe, chances are it will be fine*

*Maybe.

Basically - Bosch fuel pump - yes you will be fine; lucas one - will have problems. physically check the type of pump first, manufacturers used different pumps in the same models depending on availability

any other type of pump check on the veg forums

thanks. I knew about the bosch pump from the transit. I will get him to see what its got....

If it's the 2068cc engine it'll either be Bosch or Roto-Diesel - Roto-Diesel pumps dislike veg almost as much as Lucas ones unfortunately. I think the turbo diesels were usually Bosch though, so he should be OK.

How difficult/costly is it to change your fuel pump if you have the wrong type?

You need the injection pump, sprocket, injectors and injector lines from a donor engine but it's not that difficult.

Mechanical Bosch pumps for turbo cars have a 'flying saucer'/'mushroom' boost compensator on top of the pump body.

no I am just talking about buying it and tipping it into the tank in asdas car park! Like you do with the tranny.

/\/\ If that website lists it as a one tank system then yeah just tip the veg oil in your tank.I use it as a quick guide to what will and won't run on veg.

I get you. They want to sell the other bits but the pump has to be right in the folirst place

Several years ago I had a Discovery TD5, I tried it on 20% SVO/80% diesel as a suck it and see approach.

Oh dear.... Wish I had never bothered. It ran ok. Until I tried to start it the following day. It started, but only just ran. Had to do several trips on foot to fill a five litre container with diesel, pour it in, replace the fuel filter, keep putting more diesel in and repeating the start, chug, start, chug chug procedure until it ran properly.
