LPG advise

Any knowledgeable types on here who could advise me as to what the best kit would be to fit to my Bitter SC? Lump is a bored out 3.9 version of the Opel straight six cam in head, with fuel injection, [not the later Carlton engine]

Prins sequential systems are the best, although they are not cheap.

Anything multipoint/sequential should be good enough, though.

That said, on a nice big engine like that even a singlepoint system would do (like on my old XJ40)

As luxo said multipoint is best, but on something like that I'd be tempted to fit a single point as it's simpler to fit and remove.

But ....

Do you really need lpg on it? are you planning on keeping it a long time and doing thousands and thousands of miles in it?

I'd expect a good multi-point for a 6-pot to be around £2k. Excuse the armchair maths, but to me that means you'd need to be looking at £5k+ spend on fuel before the lpg starts to save you money.

On a car like the Bitter I think fitting an lpg kit would ruin some of the originality of the car and possibly reduce re-sale value, as the car has to butchered a bit to fit the extra pipes and tank.

You're probably right.....just an idle thought that occurred to me

Polish mate of mine bought an S60 turbo, drove it all the way to Poland and had an LPG kit fitted there. Stayed in a decent hotel and had a weeks holiday, and drove home on cheap gas. Reckoned all in it still cost him just over half what he'd pay to have the same system fitted here. I had a look over it when he got back and the install was first class, even all the hose clips were perfectly aligned. He saved even more money by filling the boot with cheap vodka and fags

Multipoint is the way to go for best performance and economy, expensive, but once fitted you may find you'll use the car more. I don't think a system would knock the cars value, but probably wouldn't increase it. The old style mixer system is the least intrusive, look into the Blos mixer, they're a pretty good device. It's quite possible to convert a car yourself with used parts for not much more than the cost of a tank of petrol, but you really need to know what you're doing.

During a fuel crisis a few decades ago, my cousin smoked around in a Hillman Hunter with a big red gas bottle in the passenger seat, it's hose poking into the carb and winding the reguator up and down as he went.

There used to be an LPG place in Cardiff staffed by Polish lads that did 6 cylinder engines for £1200 "all in" with a courtesy car while it was being worked on.

A work colleague of mine had his Mercedes S Class converted there and was very happy with it.

i bought a kit for my RRC V8, single point closed loop from tinleytech.

4 years ago or so that worked out less than £700 delivered. Fitted it myself over a couple of weekends. then motored up to TT in Cambridgeshite and they inspected and gave me a certificate of compliance which kept the insurers happy.

They do all manner of stuff, worth having a shify on their website

No commercial connections etc etc etc
