My faithful old Previa - SOLD.

I've got huge reservations about selling this, but here goes.

1993 K reg 2.4 auto petrol Previa.

MOT'd until late March, but the tax ran out at the end of December - now sorned.

The old bus has passed every mot since I've had it, but on the last one, it picked up a couple of advisories.

It needs a couple of rear discs, about 44 quid off ebay. Another of the advisories was for slight play in a nearside joint. Don't know where or why. There's no adverse tyre wear and it drives as straight as an arrow. It needs an exhaust tail section. The box is ok, but the pipe leading up to it has some pinholes. An exhaust bandage will do the trick until mot time. The windscreen has a slight arcing scratch on the drivers side caused by a piece of grit getting under the wiper blade. I don't think it will be an mot issue though.

It's been regularly serviced by me, and the oil stays clean between changes. It uses no oil or water and does not overheat - ever.

There's no rust, there are scratches here and there, but the beast is almost 20 years old.

It's had wind deflectors fitted to the front windows, new rear speakers and a third brake light fitted - essential. It also has a nice cd/tuner which gives good sound. Excellent tyres on 16 inch Team Dynamics wheels.

In view of the couple of jobs it needs, I'm asking £350, which in my view is a total bargain. You can get in this motor, and you know it's going to get you there and back. Total reliability.

I've only got one photo from a while ago, but it looks pretty much the same now, apart from the wind deflectors. If anyone's interested and needs more pics, just let me know.

2.4 is petrol? I had a 2.2 diesel and it was horrible on fuel. :(

Yep, 2.4 petrol. They are a tad thirsty. They're big old beasties though. Mine seems better since I gave it fresh oil and filters.

The practicality of the bus outweighs the fuel consumption. Excellent load luggers.

The 2.4 petrol is loads better than the 2.2 diesel as they have loads of head problems

Absolutely. No problems at all with this one.

Oh, by the way, the aircon works too :D

+1, the 2.4 petrol is actually the best engine in these things by a country mile. Aren't these an 8 seater, too?

Yep, 7 or 8 seater. All seats in very good nick.

Just had this running again today, after two months sitting in the ice and snow.

Still as good as ever, nice toasty heater too.

I thought this would have flown away by now.

So reliable.

I can't believe you've still got this! It looks like something I could love, Previas are well up my list of likely people-carriers and the spec is right. What a shame we're about as far apart as you can get without Ken Bruce to interpret....

I can't believe it either really. Mind you, I haven't exactly pushed the sale.

I just look at it in the front garden knowing that if anything happens to its replacement, I've got instant backup.

I will sell it though if someone wants it.

How can I tell?

Pretty sure it is, I've never been excessively loaded with insurance.

I'd say it is a UK-New car, imports are generally festooned with about 20 mirrors covering every angle of the car, plus a your fuses would be labeled in Japanese etc.

I bet it's fly out on GumTree. You'd obv. have the hassle of dealing with every word spaz inside a 200 mile radius of your house, but it'd sell on there just because it's taxed, tested and 7-8 seats.

just spent a happy while googling 'previa import'

possibly does not have 'new at first registration' on v5, or uk normal size numberplate surround at the rear and may have a rear view mirror randomly placed above the rear hatch

or more definitely if it is badged a toyota estima

so i tend to agree with volksy :P

so i guess that excuse is out the window :D

insurance may be ok too 8)

only excuse left is that i am working onsite for the next 10-14 days

could you pm me your tel no so i can give you a call in a fortnight, if not sooner

ps - everyone else stop bumping the thread/suggesting other sales avenues , its ruining my master plan

Gumtree was my next avenue, but I really don't want to.

I'd rather keep it than go through that.

In fact, if it doesn't sell, then I'll probably start buying the parts it needs and fix it up.

Brake discs are around the 45 quid mark for a pair, and a rear silencer is sub 30 quid on ebay.

You certainly won't have to throw hundreds at it.

My missus really loves its replacement though, so don't put me through the marital strife.

Posted

I have enough car related strife of my own

family load lugger mondeo estate has been replaced because 'swmbo 'wants a german sporty saloon'

c230 kompressor merc suppplied 'only has 4 seatbelts and not enough boot space for camping'

my 5ry old daughter says (with tears and everything) 'keep the fast car(merc) and sell your trash car (megane coupe)':lol:

anything for a quiet life

and more importantly i haven't bought myself a car for over 16 months, and quite like the look of your previa

ps mr smooth you have pm

Deffo a UK car, the Jap imports are narrower.

Posted

Thanks for that.

I'm getting jittery now it looks like I could possibly sell this.

Had many family outings in the beast. The twin sunroofs are nice.

It's got to go though.

Collected this evening.

Nice meeting you Mel.

Hope the bus gives you the service it's given me.

Oil changes every 3k!!!

I always added Lucas oil stabiliser too. Expensive, but bloomin' good stuff.

how long 'til the next change being due then?

hope to give the previa its ritual 'keeper' first wash on monday.

looking at the size of both the interior and the outside i have booked the whole day off

(ps bus is clean and tidy as is  )

If you have a butchers at the mot Mel, that's the last time it was changed.

It did get too much use last year, so you should have a thousand or two left yet.

cheers dave - i had a look at the oil again while showing the inlaws the 'mid engine' under the seat and its sparkly clean - obviously a testament to your oil change schedule 8)

enjoying the bus, although even after just 24hrs of ownership i seem to have become a family minicab service

The oil will stay that colour until you change it again Mel. Excellent engine you have there.

I changed the oil in my Voyager a few weeks ago, and it's as black as a witches tit again already.
