The blue one looks a minter apart from the frontal damage.

Stellar work. :)

A week after I got the blue one home someone is Norfolk responded to my wanted ad I had put in the classic car weekly. I went to look at it 5 or 6 weeks ago and did the deal, left a deposit, paid for it a couple of weeks ago and finally got it home on Friday night.

That's in better nick than when they were new..........used to work at a Fiat dealer in the early eighties when the last ones before the Regata were being sold, some had been in a field for 3 years before they made it to the showroom.........with the predictable disasterous results

Fantastic - one of my favourite Fiats! There must only be a handful left in the UK?So what are your plans for them both - will you be repairing the blue one?I have not long finished studying the owner handbook for the 1979 model 132's 8) I also purchased a 1979 132 2000 sales brochere along with it from fiatdaft :D

I have started repairing the blue one. Got the front end stripped, just waiting for a part to come from Germany and then the rebuild can begin.

Fantastic cars, looking forward to seeing these in the flesh. I cannot genuinely remember seeing one one the roads. Glad to see that someone is doing their thing for these cars.

The last one I saw was this one at Beaulieu.

I’ve not only seen one, but actually had a ride out in one at the age of 12-13 I’d guess. So not really very recent then…There was one near here a few years ago, off the road and looking distinctly rough. Scrapped now I’d imagine, place looks clear of anything like that.

The gold 132 is now in Ireland I believe. Was for sale recently I think. Where in Norfolk are you? The green one came from your neck of the woods, could be the same car you saw!

Posted

Pretty sure the one I saw was gold, not far from Attleborough. It was definitely rough, been gone for several years.RetroMat has pictures of an early green one in Essex I think?Good work on dragging one all the way from Norfolk up to Cumbria!

Posted

I'm in contact with retromatt, he is trying to find out about the early green one, it may yeild some useful spares!

Posted

Oh no, the gold one didnt get hoovered up by that mad old geezer with a field full of em did it?This thread is making me go weepy-eyed for my shonky old Argenta!

This thread is making me go weepy-eyed for my shonky old Argenta!

Why, what happened to it?

The black one is a 132 Bellini special edition based on the 132 2 litre which belongs to James Nicholson from Northampton. It is low mileage and mint if what I'm told is true, but I have not seen it in the flesh myself. The gold 132 went to Ireland but to a different man. Like I say it was for sale but was far too pricey for me to consider.Richard, you really should get the Argenta up and running. You know I would like to add it to my collection!

I've not seen James for a few years, but he used to have a HUGE collection of Argentas and 132s - don't know if he's still got the bulk of them.

Found these 2 images I took a few years back of other gold cars - seemed to be the choice of colour.

This was in probably seen in the early 90's - but definately in Oxfordshire.

Taken in Cobham maybe as late as 2001, prior to the yard being totally cleared.

The top car there was a 132 2 litre, which looked like it would have yeilded many useful parts! Such a shame these were not still sitting in scrapyards now!

Loving this thread - got a bit of a thing for 132's just now :D I cant even seem to find any decent pics of an Argenta on the net just now, let alone remembering seeing one in the flesh.Anyone got any pics of theirs??

Posted

Fantastic collection - I hadnt realised how much an Argenta looks like a Regata from the front!Best of all - it has a Glasgow registration :D:D Keep up the good work!

OK, so today I got to play with my new 132! I decided to start by clearing out the rubbish (two bin bags full) and cleaning it up. Again there are about 35 new pics on dropshots, but here is a brief run down:

After a wash:

Hope to do some more tomorrow!

Big difference already, did you polish it - the paint looked quite tired in the first pic of this thread, but looks nice and shiney just there :D Will be watching your resto eagerly :)Edit: Also liking your 131's there

Posted

The first pic shows it still wet. The paint is quite tired, particularly on the bonnet, roof and boot.

The interior looks like a more grown up version of my old 127 Palio :D

Just perfect for a period car chase. Lovely. Were Fiat UK selling Argentas by the time the green one was registered? X-plate seems very late for a 132.

Posted

That is a good question..... Yes this 132 is a late one, as for X reg Argentas more than likely, I have an 'A' reg Argenta and it is a series 2. They did not last long!

What a great find. Looks in really nice condition.

You must be well chuffed! It would never occur to me to start launching wanted ads for something as obscure as a 132, i would have given up before I even started! Where did you advertise?

Posted

There's a fella called Alex Kew who has had a wanted ad for (variously) a Chrysler 180/2-Litre, Humber Sceptre (Arrow Shape), Tagora and Alpine in Practical Classics and Car Mechanics for YEARS. Always adds "must be in excellent condition", which is probably where he is struggling for at least 3 out of the 4, I'd be grateful to get a lead on a 180 in any condition TBH.
